I thought this was brilliant, such a talented cast. Recommend seeing, could see it going to the west end.

Wow.
Just wow.
Absolutely brilliant. The highlight of the Nationals season so far. And they didn't even create it. Great script, well directed and some really amazing talent in the cast. A Friday Rush ticket well spent.

This was one of the most interesting things I think I have ever seen and in a good way. Such an amazing cast and boy can they sing. Both very funny and very sad.
I was figeting towards the end but that was down to the uncomfortable seats and not very much legroom. And I was sat in the posh seats.
I can see that this will be a love or hate play. 2 of our party really liked it and the other 2 nor so keen.

I've just stupidly - stupidly - booked a Friday rush ticket for this without checking the start time, and realised it doesn't start till 9pm!
Is it really 1 hour 45? I don't know if I can handle that late a finish, and hanging around for 3 hours after work!

It was running at 1h52m when I went a couple of weeks ago. Not super-long, but I guess a 9pm start time would make a huge difference compared with a 5:30pm start time...

I'm going to have to return the ticket, I can't handle not getting out of a theatre till 11pm, not when it typically takes me 2 hours to get home afterwards. I guess it's perfect for students, or if you live in London, but really not so great for the rest of us! |

9pm somehow suits the content of the show. It's a good time for a Friday night if you don't live far away. Unfortunately for any other situation it's awkward.

I just came from the 5:30 show today and what can I say. This show is great!There is so much heart and humour to it and I feel very happy to have seen it. This show feels very special and a sort of hidden gem of a play. All the cast had great voices and I use like to se more things like it. Would definalty recommend seeing it.

Totally forgot to return my ticket, so ended up going along tonight in the end.
Now trying to stay awake on the train home - at least I'm the last stop, so the cleaners should wake me up at the other end if I drop off!
Blimey, but it is a little bit brilliant, isn't it?! Wonderful work from the cast, raucous and energetic. I did feel it went on a little too long, and ended up feeling a bit episodic, but I guess that reflects on the fact that the story is basically about s never-ending bender! They're all desperate to keep it going, because when they stop they'll have to face up to the reality of their lives.
Still, being a short-arse and sitting in row B meant I had a proper neck ache after 2 hours of looking up at the high stage.

Saw Rory Kinnear outside the stage-door as we made our way to the Dorfman. I usually spot a famous person just before I have a Fantastic Night Out at the Theatre. Sadly this was not to be the case this evening.
The six strong cast of ladies, supported by three superb lady musicians, can certainly act, move and sing, even if their portrayals of the various men they encounter are a little unconvincing. Their rendition of Mr Blue Sky near the beginning of the piece was truly uplifting, but sadly was to remain the highlight of the show for me.
I wasn't entertained, interested or moved by this. It was crying out for a change of style at times, as the monotony of four letter expletives at screech level had me switching off. I wasn't surrounded by howls of laughter where I was sitting either so I could only deduce that I wasn't alone. I agreed with a previous poster who found the production far superior to the material. And I too found the monologue regarding the rape of the male cancer patient in the hospice truly abhorrent. I wonder if some reviewers would have been quite so positive if it had been a young man explicitly describing how he had taken advantage of a young girl as she lay dying. For laughs. Either way, this kind of writing goes places I'd rather not visit...
At the end of the hour and fifty minutes (it overruns) I was the one in need of succour.

Despite Theatremonkey's positive report on being able to complete the mad dash from the 3 pm perf of Vanities to the 5.30 pm perf of this (the order in which I was also due to see the two productions), I have now given up on the idea and returned my ticket. Having an injury issue which makes even walking hard at present so no way I can hope to put on a spurt if necessary; also, when I checked with the NT re running time, they said now 1 hour 50, no interval, and that instead of speeding up during the run as some plays do, it had gained 10 mins. No way I can sit that long without an interval, so I got a refund. The run appeared sold out so they should have no difficulty re-selling my ticket, which was the cheapest type anyway.

Would say to anyone who enjoyed the high energy performances in this one (as my daughter and I did) to take a trip over to the Theatre Royal Stratford East this week to catch up with The Glasgow Girls. My 17 year old son (not easy to please and certainly not a musicals person) enjoyed it so much that he has been wishing there was a soundtrack recording. Only on this week before the tour continues in Dundee.

Agree with theatremonkey and jek about this one...music was fantastic and there was a good play struggling to get out of this but it sort of never quite happened. Frustrating, as we had glimpses of what it could have been at times, and then we descended into chaos and unnecessary shock tactics again and again and it disappeared.....and as jek says Glasgow Girls is fabulous - saw it at Oxford and WOW. Great music and characters and disciplined storytelling that really hits home. Far better than this one.

Just another quick shout out for Glasgow Girls which I saw first time round and am going to see again in Stratford East this week - funny, heartwarming and great music.
Glasgow Girls was a National Theatre of Scotland co-production - I see that there is a documentary on the first ten years of the NTS on BBC2 Scotland on Tuesday at 9pm. If you have Sky you can get BBC2 Scotland even if you're south of the border, but I assume it will be on iPlayer afterwards.

Opens May 9th at the Duke of Yorks, running until September 2nd. Produced by Sonia Friedman. 30,000 tickets under £30 over the course of the run, and all previews £30 or less.

Wow... wasn't expecting this transfer, but have heard great things and I did want to see it last year so this is one for the list!  its quite a run for this show, I'm glad they have cheap tickets as it should definately get more people through the door! |
