Oh don't waste a trip for Carrie - it really was dire, and not even in a good way. My time trips would be to have seen something at Epidaurus, the Birds perhaps, and then something at the Globe. Failing those, something with La Merman.

Twelfth Night - just imagine sitting there and seeing that story unfold without having any idea where it was going. It would be magical
There are many first nights in the history of musical theatre that I would love to revisit.
I am torn between the first performance of The Beggar's Opera (in so many ways the start of what we now know as a musical) and that of Die Zauberflote (for similar reasons). Both mark major landmark moments in the development of MT as we now know it.

Patti in Sunset, probably her last night when there was a set malfunction and she sang for the audience during the show-stop.
And to be honest it has to be Idina and Kristin in those first few months of Wicked Broadway, it must have been so special.
(These will be really recent for a lot of you but I’m very young 🙈)

1). Watch a performance of the original production of 'Les Mis' at either the Palace, or the Queen's (Sondheim).
2). Bit of an odd one, but watch a performance of the London production of 'The Lord of the Rings' musical, with Laura Michelle Kelly as Galadriel.

That's really funny as I have often wondered what my reaction would have been as an audience member when they announced at the start of the show "Tonight the role of Velma Kelly will be played by Liza Minnelli". I think i would have had a heart attack, wet myself or probably both. |

I have had a couple of truly memorable nights that could have made the list
First was seeing Victor/Victoria on Broadway about a week before Julie Andrews left. It was clear her voice was struggling but she gave a true star performance. One of her last.
Second was the complete opposite... Which Witch. Everyone should see a total turkey at some point and even though I have seen many awful productions over the years (tour of Tonight's The Night I am looking at you), WW will never be beaten for being a dreadful piece taken so seriously by the producers and so not seriously by the cast. Sometimes you can just tell from the faces of the cast that they have no faith in what they are doing....

Julie Andrews in My Fair Lady on Broadway

And a cheeky third trip to see Gwen Verdon in Sweet Charity.
More recent:
I would have loved to have been in the audience for the first preview of Hamilton off-Broadway, before it became a phenomenon.
And for very different reasons, the first Broadway preview of Rent.

I'm struggling to think of many musicals that I'm desparate to see in the original productions. I'd much rather see the original productions of numerous operas. But I suppose, as this is the musicals section, it has to be musicals. Maybe Cats, to see what the auditorium rotating was like, and Starlight Express, to see the rollerskating tracks going round the auditorium.
I confess I'm rather surprised that a couple of people want to see Lord of the Rings. Presumably for the fairly spectacular production rather than the not very good piece itself.
