Songs added after opening

Never liked all the changes that were made to Tell Me On A Sunday. I thought the original soundtrack in song and dance suited perfectly.

When Ethel Merman (who was offered the leading role even before Carol Channing) joined the cast of Hello, Dolly! in its sixth and final year on Broadway they restored two songs that had been cut before the opening night, "World, Take Me Back" and "Love, Look in My Window". It's a choice that doesn't make much sense since these two songs have exactly the same purpose of "Before the Parade Passes By" in terms of plot and character development, but Merman could sell them and the audience ate them up. Also, the song "Come and Be My Butterfly" was replaced with "The Polka Contest" during the Broadway run, while "Penny in My Pocket" was cut during the pre-Broadway try-out and restored for the 2017 revival.

Phantom stage show, Aspects, Woman In White, School of Rock have yet (I think) to get a new song!

There are also loads of songs removed and general re-writing.
"Musicals aren't written, they are re-written" as they always say.

Miss Saigon - Maybe (God I wish they'd put It's Her Or Me back in).
Chess - Someone Else's Story. Then that Act 2 opener that Burke sang at the ENO.

The WORST decision ever made in theatre was to cut It's Her Or Me

In fact I dug out my CD of the OLC today. La Moore's seminal rendition of It's Her Or Me is truly iconic. 

Covid depending Miss Saigon should open in Vienna this year. Fingers crossed they reinstate it.
