Another couple of songs;
'Playing the Game' in Mary Poppins - I much prefer 'Temper, Temper'
Then I was about to say 'Queen of Pop' replacing 'Double Bubble Duchess' in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in London, but then remembered it went to Broadway and quite a lot of it was replaced anyway. LOL.

Not only did Sondheims Bounce add songs it completely changed the name of the show to Roadshow and added a gay relationship.

Wasn't 'Dancing Through Life' added to Wicked after San Francisco? It replaced one called 'Life Of The Party' I think. And one called 'Making Good' was dropped and replaced with 'The Wizard & I' 😁 That’s right! Dancing Through Life replaced Which Way’s the Party. Wizard and I was written especially for Idina Menzel when she was cast for Broadway. Idina Menzel played Elphaba in the San Francisco tryouts too, she wasn’t newly cast for Broadway. Wizard and I was definitely an addition at some point, but it will have gone in either during or before the SF tryouts, not for Broadway. There are bootlegs of it floating around from the SF run. |

Wizard of Oz - 5 new ALW songs I see Lloyd Webber's version of The Wizard of Oz more as a new adaptation than a revival as it has a different book by himself and Jeremy Sams to the 1987 RSC adaptation by John Kane which is the one that many regional theatres/schools/amdrams have since used (granted it is still very close to the film's screenplay - which arguably so is ALW's). So I think the fact ALW and Tim Rice felt the need to add more songs was what gave the whole thing a complete overhaul to work on stage. But whilst the Birmingham REP's 2018 production looked and sounded like Oz as never before, it was still the RSC adaptation (with a few extra lines/references to the gender changes etc.), however that production included the apple trees singing a song as the set changed into the Tin Man scene. I'm not sure what the lyrics were, nor can I find the song online but the music was the same bit that you hear as the underscore in the film as Dorothy goes to take an apple from the tree. So maybe lyrics were added to that piece of music for that specific production, as I don't believe it has been in any other...? Onto another musical, Tim Minchin recently revealed that he has written a new song for the upcoming Matilda movie so I wonder if that will that be added to the stage show in the same way that "Could We Start Again Please" (Jesus Christ Superstar) "Mean Green Mother" (Little Shop of Horrors) and probably other examples were subsequently added. Witches of Eastwick - Glory of Me replacing "Who's the man" "I love a little town" was also replaced but I cannot for the life of me remember the title Yes, ‘The Glory of Me’ was added during the London run when the show transferred to the Prince of Wales. ‘I Love a Little Town’ remained for the entire original run and was still present (with an extended dance break) in the subsequent Australian staging, but was replaced by ‘Darryl Van Horne’ for the Signature and UK Tour versions. These also added ‘Your Wildest Dreams’ in place of ‘Eye of the beholder’. |

Also, ‘Love’s Maze’ was added to the show between the Scarborough tryout and London, replacing ‘Deadlier than the male’
Didn’t Passion have a song added to the original London production?

I think all the productions that came after the West End debut have cut the extended version of the song and kept only the shorter version that Giorgio sings to Fosca before their night together. Coincidentally, "Loving You" was added during previews, although I don't think this kind of songs should be included in this thread. |

Apparently on theOBC Passion DVD with commentary you do get a version of Loving You sung by the Jere Shea. I'm the Hat books sondheim talks about liking the song but Lapine thinks it's too grand so out it went. I really like it. Plus it helps to tell G's side of the story. I'm the Chatalet version Sondheim gave them the rights to perform it - Yay and it was fabulous 😁❤️👌 |

Especially since its pretty much true for every single one! I can think of Hairspray and Into the Woods who decided to cut their additional song (although Hairspray still had their end credits one which I love!) |

Agreed. It's losing the tune I'm sad about — it's left dangling in the overture, and I think some if the underscoring now.
It's Her or Me or Now That I've Seen Her would have been fine.
