I know some members were asking for photos of the Sean Kenny set for Oliver! I've just found a very old theatre programme from 1980 from the Dublin production which recreated Peter Coe's original production and used the Sean Kenny set. This set was amazing in the flesh. It consisted mainly of the central revolve with the curved staircases, flanked by wooden scaffolding at both sides against a London backdrop. The staircases rotated to create all the locales with some flying pieces such as the workhouse gate and the chimneypiece from Fagin's Den. It seemed to capture all the life and energy of Victorian London as the cast moved around and over it. I remember the lighting as being very moody and atmospheric also. ibb.co/8BSwRQGibb.co/hZsrh5Gibb.co/tP60L43

This was the production that had Adele (Twink) King as Nancy (I can see her headshot one of the pages you posted) - can you tell me who played Fagin, Sikes, Bumble etc? It looks like it was a really well produced/designed/cast production. Who directed it? I saw a production in Cork in 2005 directed by the late great Bryan Flynn, that also toured I believe, and he recreated the Sean Kenny set, slightly modified, but used to great effect. Many set hiring companies rent Oliver! sets to amateur and pro companies to this day that are based on the Kenny design - lots of wood, panels, bridges, curtains etc.

Looks great. Thanks for sharing.
When you look at pics of musicals that opened at a similar time you appreciate how advanced it really was. Also, how it paved the pay for shows such as the Les Miz at the Barbican

It was produced by Noel Pearson by arrangement with Cameron Mackintosh. I'll scan the credits page over the weekend and upload it. It was directed by Larry Oaks based on the original production by Peter Coe. I'll list the cast here based on the headshots for now. They were all great Irish character actors. Even the kids were top notch - Tom Murphy who was Dodger later won a Tony award for The Beauty Queen of Leenane. Fagin - John Molloy Nancy - Adele King Oliver - Garry Burke Artful Dodger - Tom Murphy Mrs Sowerberry - Barbara Brennan Bill Sikes - Jonathan Ryan Bet - Jennifer O'Dea Mr. Bumble - Godfrey Quigley Mrs. Corney - Ann Rowan Mr. Brownlow - Aidan Grennell Dr. Grimwig - Christopher Casson Mr. Sowerberry - Charles Roberts

Thank you for that! Yes, all great Irish actors of the time. Didn't know Cam Mac was involved - how interesting!

Wasn't Cam Mac once a stage manager and pie seller (who will buy) in one production?
