Was there this afternoon and it really was just pure joy. I don’t know what else I can add that anybody hasn’t already said but everybody needs to go and see this show if they are able to. Full standing ovation after the Act 1 finale and then after Blow Gabriel Blow the applause felt like it would never end. It felt like the audience was just having the best time.

What I noted was how much the CAST were loving it too. Agreed 100%. One of the best ever.

I'm seeing this tomorrow (!) and wondering if anyone has any suggestions for outdoor dining (potentially in the rain) near the Barbican. If the weather's nice, I can always get something at Benugo and sit on the terrace, but if it's raining, I'm not seeing a lot of sheltered yet outside options for sit-down dining.
(I'd eat elsewhere then head to the Barbican Centre, but with a Tube strike looming I want to be as close as possible well in advance.)
Thanks!

One New Change in St Paul’s (which is about a 10/15 minute walk) has some chain restaurants although not outside.

Along Whitecross Street (more or less in front of the Barbican), Long Lane (Smithfield/Farringdon), Aldersgate (Barbican Station, albeit not a lot) and in the the offices in the plaza between Moorgate Station and the Barbican all have lots of little restaurants — some chains but mostly small independents.

The planned tube strike has been suspended. 😀 Yay! One less complication, anyway. Now, if we could only 'suspend' the rain.

Unfortunately, I'm still trying to avoid indoor dining when possible. Since the Tube strike is now off for the time being, I might eat near Covent Garden where I have a pre-dinner errand to run anyway.

Enjoyed this enormously. Not much to add as everything has already been covered by previous posters. Sutton Foster is absolutely wonderful and hope she will be nominated for an Olivier. Highly recomended.

If you don’t mind the walk it’s only about a 30/40 minute walk from Covent Garden to Barbican if you want to avoid the tube/inside!

There are lots of restaurants in the area Most of these offer outdoor dining? Most don’t due to lack of space (it’s the City) but lots of them offer takeaway.

The “About” page on the Barbican website has gone from saying that Sutton Foster is scheduled for all performances including matinees up to 10th October, to now saying “ All casting is currently confirmed until 17 October, more news to follow on performances beyond this date.”

Clearly. It’s depressing how few people care about others safety in these theatres right now. I loved this show but was horrified at how few were wearing masks and it’s put me off returning to the theatre anytime soon.

I mask up at all times but do think that's fair enough!

Gosh you’d all be having palpitations here at Lion King where less than 10% of the audience are wearing masks I’d say.

Mask was only off for the pic.
I would assure you that it has been worn throughout. It’s still on as I type this 😷
