What a great review craig! Anything Goes and the classical musicals in general aren't my thing at all but I've found myself looking at tickets after that! Plus I can't really resist the opportunity to see Sutton Foster. I'd better get in there quick before the reviews come out by the sounds of things. |

Nothing like a load of tap dancing Sailors to bring all the boys to the yard.
Lovely review and I agree with every singe word of it.
I’ve rebooked to go a second time, something I never do.
If those reviews aren’t 5 star raves across the board- I’m rioting.

Granted it is only one person (moniker Loopin'theloop) but I was surprised to read such a strong criticism over at Broadway World: "I must say though, the British cast are weak. It also shows up the weaknesses in Marshall’s direction. The choreography remains lovely (if low energy) but some of the book scenes are just deadly and the cast have not been given a firm enough hand. Sutton is wonderful but her energy is pitched lower than in New York to compensate. It would be cruel to be too specific but a couple of the British leads are truly appalling" |

I actually managed to get a Rush Ticket today, was allocated a seat and everything but (in truth) I've had kind of a rubbish day and just couldn't be bothered.
It might have actually been the pick me up.
As much as I want to see this show I guess I'll just have to wait until next time.
I guess no tap dancing guys and gals for me tonight

Hopefully your evening and weekend will improve anthony40 I have tickets for this but not till September, and all these rave reviews make me want to see it far sooner. Maybe the Sunday matinee. Despite being around for numerous previous productions, I've never actually seen Anything Goes. The old school type of musicals aren't really my thing. |

Have to say even though I’d seen superlative A Little Night Music at Buxton Opera House the previous weekend as a non socially distanced show this felt like my genuine return to theatre.
First timer at the Barbican and it felt huge ! How seats ? Two thousand ? Is it that big ?
Anyway arriving with moments to spare I shimmied my way about a third of Row D to my seat and sat soaking up the atmosphere.
Firstly I have to say that on Wednesday night it was quite possibly one of the best audiences I’ve had the pleasure to be seated amongst, applauded at the end of the phone announcement and the start of the overture, laughed in all the right places, applause bang on too and on its feet at the right pivotal moments to show its appreciation.
The set looks stunning, it looks very very very expensive and although there are only small changes in the most part with cabin interiors etc wheeled on it all looks sumptuous.
Having been fortunate enough to see Sutton Foster in The Drowsy Chaperone on Broadway I was very excited to see her and was delighted that there was a outbreak of applause when she first sets foot on stage.
She is just incandescent. Warm, engaging, funny, that voice, those legs, the moves. Amazing. You just want her to be your best friend.
Robert Lindsay was excellent too, Gary Wilmot landed all his gags, Felicity made the most of very moment. Carly is such a break out star in the show grabbing every moment and all eyes being on her.
No one is duff some just shine slightly brighter than others.
To me it was just a magical magical magical night that just dripped joy and sincerity from the cast who were obviously pleased as punch to be back doing what they loved.

Just heading home from tonight’s performance and just had to put my thoughts down!
This was my first time back in a theatre in over 18 months and wow this was absolutely perfect show to return to. Completely sensational. This is the only ‘classic’ musical I’ve ever seen - unless Mary Poppins counts? - and tbh I had somewhat low expectations for my enjoyment but I’d assumed it would feel dated, but I was completely wrong. I’m shocked at how funny I found it, I had no idea it was such a comedy show. I loved how well all the plot lines connected with each other from the start, meant we got to see all different types of characters interacting in fun ways.
After tonight, I completely understand why Sutton Foster is deemed theatre royalty; it was a privilege to see her in her element. I have no doubt that she’ll easily win Best Actress at the Oliviers. Actually I think this entire show could sweep the awards: Robert Lindsay was hilarious and had a much nicer voice than I expected him to & ninth to mention his irresistible chemistry with Sutton, the set was gorgeous and looked so expensive (which fits for a cruise ship), the lighting was brilliant, and the costumes were so perfect, you could make a runway show out of the many many costumes Reno wore throughout the show.
Special shout-out to Carly Mercedes Dyer who stole every single scene she was in, and her number in the second act was one of my favourites. I’ll definitely be looking out for her in more shows in future.
On a non-performance related note, it was pretty disappointing to see that - at most - 50% of the audience were wearing masks, despite regular reminders that they should remain masked. I hope this doesn’t end up causing an infection and cutting into this marvellous show’s run, it would be a crime to prevent people from seeing this.

Also I forgot to mention last night, if anybody (like me) is interested in the merchandise available they have a decent selection. Large, quality programmes, a few key rings, 2 different t-shirts, a face mask, a patch, a tote bag, a fannypack, and I think there was a stuffed dog toy as well. It all seemed pretty fairly priced imo.

Web has the Matinee on Sunday 17th October as last performance (matinee really?).
Did I read somewhere that Ms Sutton was then headed back (on a liner?) across the pond to rehearse a new show? I.e. can I book the above with confidence that it will be her last performance?
