To be honest this looks like it's going to be close to the full show? I was thinking that too. Certainly looks like similar choreography to the full show. Obviously there'll be bits they can't replicate- wonder if they'll manage to crucify Jesus whilst still socially distancing! |

Drew McOnie's choreography was insane for this version.
I know some found it too busy but I thought it was epic. Very excited that it will remain in some form. Guess they'll be doing versions of it without touching each other though (there was quite a lot of contact originally)
Hope the band will be the same number of musicians - guess it should be.
Have to say I think not doing programmes is a daft idea. If they are selling food and drink which you literally put in your mouth, then I feel sure programmes are safe! I love something physical to read and keep, rather than scrolling through bios on the iPhone.

I agree. It seems an odd choice as shops exist so it isn’t too different. I’d get it being cash free or prebooked only even. I really do hope there is a clear cast board we can photograph on the way in with the double casting. |

The leads I'd be able to work out, but ensemble is usually harder... |

I reckon the crucifixion (if attempted at all) could work quite well using clever backlighting at the top of the steps (rather than the mechanical brilliance of the previous contraption). If you consider the split platforms of the previous set, the steps could be used to similar effect - plus, the choreography would have immense depth and impact using the steeper rake of steps as opposed to the flatter stage. This might overcome any social distancing issues, whilst retaining the artistic integrity of the original choreography. Frankly though, I'm just grateful it's happening and a black box would be enough for me just to hear and see this magnificent show again. |

OK Guys - after the furore on the Follies thread back-in-the-day when it was announced there would not be an interval at The National, I am very disappointed we've not had several pages detailing ideas, concerns and expectations about how people's bladders might fare at an interval-less JCS.
Personally, mine is quite weak so will be going at the last possible moment before entering the auditorium and restricting myself to one small diet coke for the duration.
This issue is compounded at the Open Air where they are famously militant about not letting you back in should you need to go mid-show.
Ahhhh, the heady days when #bladders, #willtherebedayseats, #howhighisthestage and #whenwillthesecondcovermidwifebeon were the most of our worries.

Friends have just given me tickets as a thank you present. Yay. Not my favourite show, composer or lyricst but covid beggars can't be picky and I'm so excited to go to the theatre again.

Is this 'lawn' within the grounds? Only place can imagine is where the benches are for the food area (the non posh food area I mean)! Although looks different in that pic as it's not flat.
Anyway, good idea. Assume won't make it too crowded within the grounds as they'd have thought of that!? Good way to raise more revenue.
Seen a few more rehearsal bits on Insta stories. Deffo the Evita 'stairs' set. Unable to see in enough detail how it's been adapted. Getting excited. Though the fact that it seems to be forecast rain for the next 9 days is, errr, concerning! Though deffo appropriate for 2020's luck lol.

What’s the Open Air theatre policy for rain? I was there exactly a year ago today for Evita and there was heavy rain until about an hour before show start. The show went ahead but was paused mid-act while they waited for more showers to pass over. The rain started again in Act 2 but they carried on. If JCS hasn't got much choreography they may carry on as long as possible. |

We might be okay tonight. The chance of rain, according to the Apple Weather app, is down to 50%. I'm more worried about the risk of lightning.
Hopefully any showers will be light.

WOW. That was incredible.
Two very small showers, otherwise dry - and the mist was beautiful with the lighting effects.
They’ve managed to keep almost all my favourite moments, and for the ones they couldn’t they’ve got very worthy replacements. In one case I might like it better than the original. And the kiss - very cleverly done!
Will post spoilers tomorrow if people want to know but right now I’m on my train home exhausted but happy. I cried, grinned like a loon, and cried some more - at least my mask hid it from everyone!
