Fascinating twitter thread of regional variations of rude 1970s and 80s schoolyard versions of the lyrics to Jesus Christ Superstar
My school’s one was
Georgie Best Superstar Wears frilly knickers and a lady’s bra

Theatremonkey - the guitar definitely bounced tonight.
For any JCS geeks, there was a lyric change tonight in Gethsemane:
"God thy will is done/Destroy your only son/I will drink your cup of poison..."

I know I've heard that before. Not sure when or why Tim Rice alters them in or out - why change them and why does he go back and forth on it?

I heard it first on the recent John Legend recording, but until last night it has always been "god thy will is hard/but you hold every card" on this run. I found it a bit jarring as it comes at the end of a consistently brilliant Gethsemane. I noticed a few tweaks in harmonies and syncopation last night too - perhaps they are trying out ideas ahead of the forthcoming US tour.

As with most people this is the ’Superstar song’ is the one that I associate with the show.
What surprised me was how it was such a small / almost insignificant part of the score, cannot even remember it being a thematic musical reference in the score as a whole.

It was released as a single before the original album was even recorded, but actually wasn't that big a hit in the UK (peaked at number 47)
Original video featuring Murray Head with an amazingly lax attitude towards health and safety (warning - extended shot of a newspaper photo of child victims of famine about 45 seconds into it)

Wow. Had completely forgotten this was a thing! 90s Welsh children were singing: Jesus Christ Superstar Why are you wearing a string bra? I notice a lot of inclusion of bra's.

Lol. We had:
Jesus Christ. Superstar. Came round the corner on a Yamaha. Did a skid. Killed a kid. Bumped his head on a dustbin lid.
Anyway, doesn’t seem to be any movement on this extending?
Anyone know when the US tour starts? Assume they are using same set which will need to be shipped....

My school’s was very similar to that and a mix of some of the above: Jesus Christ Superstar, Came down from heaven in a wonderbra. Did a skid, killed a kid, Ended up in a dustbin lid.

How brilliant. Had no idea this was a nationwide phenomenon! I guess pre internet we would never have known.... This is quite a brilliant revelation... If I ran the RUG/JCS social media channels, I'd now be doing a '"Jesus Chris.... Superstar..." What did you sing in school?' post.

And organise a rude version singalong show.
Fascinating how these things spread, particularly in the pre-internet days. I remember while I was at University in the late 80s reading an academic article about the fast spread of topical / rude / tasteless jokes using jokes about the Challenger Shuttle disaster as an example.
Also surprised me to learn the JCS song was still doing the rounds in the playground up to the 90s!

JCS would have remained an album but it really took off when they released in the US which lead to unauthorised productions. It's the reason it debuted on Broadway first rather than the West End although the West End production was actually more successful.

This could be a mis-memory and be from early 2000's with a resurgence triggered by the VHS release of the studio production.

I believe it gets changed depending on if the actor playing Jesus has an accent that sounds like ‘God thy Willy’s hard’. Which of course brings a complete new meaning to the song!

In Russia we had an “Our Ilyich Our Ilyich Our dearest Leonid Ilyich” (Brezhnev) Sang on the Superstar motif And there was another one about famous WWII pilot Maresyev who lost both legs but got back to flying sang on the Priests song’s motif. And maybe more I never heard of. These were made of way before my birth

Wasn't it changed in the Arena tour as well, to "God, thy will be done, take your only son" It's funny but I've never thought of the possible innuendo in this line until it was changed.

View and sound were fantastic for the price. AA15 you get some good views of ensemble, last supper and Pilate. If B61 is near the end, the corner seats are lousy. I'd aim for centre in the gallery, avoid upper, try any AA or BB slips in dress. Benefit of the gallery is the wall of sound hits you up there - nowhere left to go! Plus if you like observing the band, you get a good view of them too.

Do you think the sound is okay and balanced on the far AA seats of the circle? They are the £30 ones
