Just have them do The Secret Garden damnit. Open Air stalwart Michael Xavier's currently doing it in DC, so he already knows all the words if they want to nab him for it when he gets back.

Can't sleep, just realised I never bought a cast recording of this show. Which one do people recommend? I wish I'd had the tech know-how to record the Tony Hadley/Roger Daltrey version over the Summer.
I just read an article about the Regents Park production, which described the crucifixion scene nothing like the one I saw. I was wondering if someone on here could describe how it was when they saw it to see if I saw a different version.

Out of all the recordings I have heard by far my favourite is the 1996 recording. The orchestra sounds fantastic and you get Steve Balsamo and Joanna Ampil. Would highly recommend it.

Though I would argue that this recording is very polished and theatrical in it's arrangements. It's the one I was used to for years, but then I discovered the original concept album and enjoyed it far more. Far more raw, gutsy and "rock". Depends whether you are more of a showtunes person, but the original album is the score how it's meant to be heard...

Sir Dame Rice said Open Air was he's fav ever production as it was the closest to how it was envisaged as a rock concert like the original album so maybe listen to that one? It's bloody briilopads

So it's been announced this production will run from April 27 to May 20, 2018 at the Lyric Opera in Chicago!
Will there be any chance of this touring the UK after the second Regent's Park season or a West End run before it goes over to the states?

When do we think we'll hear the casting news about this?! I am still holding out hope for Tyrone Huntley back as Judas!

When do we think we'll hear the casting news about this?! I am still holding out hope for Tyrone Huntley back as Judas! I doubt he'll do it. He's contracted in Dreamgirls until December I think. Also why go back to a role when he's going to have his pick if he decides not to continue with DGs/doesn't transfer with it to Broadway.

Why go back? Because it's a much better role than his current one?!

Heres hoping for a different Jesus. I enjoyed the production, but didn't particularly like the performance of Jesus. Herod won it for me, the rest of the characters were played fairly verbatim, with the exception of Herod which was really interesting and comical interpretation of the character. I thought there was a bit of nod to Bowie in it.

Not in profile-raising terms it isn't! Really? He won the Evening Standard award for it. It's just a shame to see him so wasted in Dreamgirls. If he is looking for opportunities both sides of the pond, the Evening Standard Award is fairly irrelevant compared to being in a production that's pretty much certain to transfer to Broadway and therefore presents a potential opportunity to transfer with it. All depends on what he wants to do and whether anyone in the cast other than Amber and Liisi transferring is a realistic possibility, which we don't know.

Brilliant that Tyrone is returning - he was by far the stand out. I wonder what this means for his Dreamgirls contract - whether he'll leave early or just take a couple of months out then return, as Jeremy Secomb recently did with Les Mis?

David Thaxton and Peter Caulfield also reprising their roles - Thaxton was the other performer who I was really impressed by so I think this is great!

Such great news about this. I hear it'll transfer to town after the Open Air season.

Hoping for a new Mary Magdalene as thought she was the weak link in an otherwise strong cast

I wonder if any of the cast will go with it when it opens at the Lyric Opera in Chicago in 2018? The only one I'd consider is Tyrone, but probably only if they expect it to end up on Broadway. He's really making a name for himself in london so I don't know if he'd want to cross the pond just yet.
