Finally got my act together to book this and I just realised that it’s on at the proper theatre time of 7:30pm which puts me in an odd spot as a parent.
Husband and I would both like to watch this. 7:30pm is when our daughter goes to bed. The Old Vic really are trying to recreate the theatre effect and I am now wondering if I need to get a babysitter.

Got a £20 ticket for the Saturday evening performance.
(Realised I coordinated poorly with a friend from Brussels who is a die-hard Andrew Scott fan a minute later - she bought a ticket for the first performance. How will we resist not talking about it until after Saturday evening you wonder? Yeah, no clue!)
Excited to see this. I think the Vic is doing a great thing trying to innovate how they do theatre under the circumstances.

I guess we'll find out - queue is up to 9418 at the moment (I'm guessing that's the total number of people who have been in the queue at all today, rather than the number who are in the queue right now. For every show to sell out, that's 2000 devices per show. My guess is that they will "sell out" and then there will be additional ticket releases over the next week, in order to keep up the scarcity and provide an incentive to book now rather than decide on the night of the production. |

Finally in and tickets bought. Sat at 7.30pm for £20 and £20 for the 'In Conversation' afterwards.

Well all £10 seem to have gone already hoovered up by members higher levels I guess which in fairness is what I would have done if there were any left. £10 tickets available for this today, so they must have released more for public booking. Didn't think of that, oh well missed our there. Interesting though as I was on pretty quick yesterday so wonder if there were any £10 available then. |

I got a 20 pound ticket for the Sat matinee - which is breakfast time here in the States. I was #10,000 or something - which seemed fairly high if there were limited seats to 5 performances. I actually missed my first time to select date/time and had to get back in the queue and wait another hour.

I was allocated number 1680 (waiting on website from 9.30am) and after just over 2 hours I managed to book a £20 ticket. I was 1642... otherwise same story. |

I was 7869 (I think) - long queue but I got on with other things, so not a big problem. Ended up with a £20 ticket for the 30th, which I'm happy with - there will be three of us watching so decent value! By the time I got there, all £10 tickets were gone and they were running out of £20 ones (none for 29th July which I tried first.) I found the site a bit fiddly, but it was fine and obviously lots of tickets that weren't eye-wateringly expensive.

Sorry but I refuse to pay this much money to stream something: I drew the line at paying £16 to watch Nick Cave at Alexandra Palace tonight (I say it was tonight but it was recorded last month) especially when I saw the moodiness about customers pausing the performance (heaven forbid) I know places like the Old Vic need money to keep going but I feel there is no excuse to charge more than 5 to 10 pounds to watch things like this: when lockdown started a lot of people did free (or extremely cheap) stuff online and obviously after a couple of months they can’t keep doing that but I don’t know how upwards of £20 to watch something online can be justified.

By spending 20 quid or more, you are remaining a part of the theatre audience and supporting an industry you profess to care greatly about. And the theatre offered MANY 10 quid tickets. MANY. I personally got a 20 quid, and added an additional donation. Because I support live theatre, be it through a screen, or in the same room as me. It IS live theatre. You're looking for an experience they cannot give you right now. But they're giving you what they CAN. If you don't want to support it, don't. But don't act like they're committing highway robbery for finding a way to bring us theatre during this time. |

I'd also add - LUNGS was exceptional. "On time" for theatre, not one glitch on my end, beautifully performed (and "staged") and filmed. It was well worth the 20 quid (again, I donated another 10 on top, all I can afford right now).
I understand not being able to afford it. I do NOT understand shaming theatres for finding a way to survive.

Don't forget that the NT gets ACE funding, whereas the Old Vic doesn't. I think the NT has done a great job, offering excellent theatre streams for weeks to everyone without a fee These aren't productions created for streaming though: they're existing recordings for which regular audiences plus cinema audiences paid money months/years ago when they were first shown. I do think they should allow paid online access to archive/NT Live recordings 'going forward' because many were already rexcluded by geography, money and disability and many more of us will be excluded through the virus risk. |

I don't resent anyone, if they want to do it that way, fine. I just stated my intention, not to support them, but the NT. And as I said before: a socially distanced 'Lungs' on zoom is not why I love theatre, I'd rather watch a pre-recorded full production of Amadeus e.g. than that. |

It’s not the charging to watch it that I was commenting on, it’s the whacking the price up if you weren’t committed to queuing online when it went on sale like you will get some kind of gold circle VIP experience when you’ll be seeing the same thing as everyone else.I don’t want ANY theatre to go out of business. I know their servers couldn’t cope if every person out there decided they just HAD to watch it so they want to limit numbers but they could/should have charged a flat £10 or so and sent a link to donate more to whoever paid to see it. |
