Carly Bawden was fantastic as Eliza when it was in Sheffield. See THIS I'd love to see - I didn't know her as a performer back in 2011, but I'd really love to have seen her do it. She's so versatile

I thought that Bart Sher's approach - in having Eliza and Higgins of a similar age - actually added a lot to the piece. It takes out the element of he's an older man preying on a vulnerable younger woman and puts them on a more even keel to start with (I don't see him as preying on her personally but I know people who have said that about it in the past)

While it doesn't have to go as far as him preying on her, he is certainly taking advantage of her situation for his silly social experiment. Putting them on an even keel reduces that, and/or makes Eliza seem like an idiot for not spotting it sooner. She needs to be naive and a bit of a dreamer, otherwise none of it makes sense.

When do people think it will open in 2022? The musical slot (the one that they used for Sweeney/Sunset etc) was April-June, but the original Hairspray slot was April-August (6 months) so your guess is as good as mine 😂😂

My source that told me Hairspray will transfer from the Coli (!) has confirmed that MFL will play next summer at the Coli and the year after that it will be the Prom.

No offence, but that sounds so unlikely - The Prom is a lovely show and more known now because of Netflix, but it isn't going to come close to selling out the Coliseum. Financially that makes no sense whatsoever, especially not 2.5 years after the film version.

Unless they literally star cast the Prom with the cast of the Netflix special...I can't see that in the Coli.
But can we hurry up and get it to London please? 😂

To me it feels like a show that would do really well at The Other Palace, and then maybe transfer out of there like Heathers did

Thank the lord! It’s my dream to see this show having been brought up on my parents forcing me to watch the musical most Christmas. Any news on the announcement? Seems like if there’s any truth in it. It’ll be a very Lerner and lowe year!

…and with Claire Sweeney busy elsewhere we might get an appropriate Eliza.
