I've been checking out of curiosity and today they offered several seats in row c and d of the upper circle. There were also several stalls seats, even fairly close to the stage (row D & E) although the seats were extremely lateral

Thank you all. I’ve had a go this morning and also pulled up several options in the stalls (right on one side but probably still good) and similar in the upper circle. Only after a single seat so hopefully I’ll get something good when I’m in London next week!

Given the person concerned hasn't yet returned to explain what they said, I'm not sure why I should accept your interpretation over mine. Particularly given it was my post from ages ago they went to the effort to dig up, not yours. Joke or not, it was aimed at me and I didn't appreciate it. And I certainly don't see why I should apologise for interpreting a post that was aimed squarely at me in a different way to you. Perhaps you might consider apologising for telling me how I should feel? Because that is what you seem to be doing in that last sentence. I didn't dig it up. I saw read it on Page 1 after you made the most recent remark. I found it funny because the comment on Page 1 was from 2 years ago. I didn't have any malicious intent. I just used an exaggerated word for comic effect. Thank you for explaining, and apologies for the confusion. I read your post in a different way. |

I got Row E in rush (after being offered some less desirable seats first). It is on the outside but the angle is good. You’re always going to be a long way back due to the orchestra pit.
Did move across a bit as it’s not full. Even some empty prime front row seats available, but I haven’t moved there.
Very good so far (interval time). There is a restless child near me, but it is a long show. Some restless adults too. But most of the audience are very respectful.

Final verdict is also very positive. Everything looks fantastic. Vanessa Redgrave was frail but on form, although they were sometimes struggling to get her audio levels right. The two leads are perfect together.
I think they’ve tweaked the ending again from Broadway (or my memory is going).
Running very long. End time tonight wasn’t until 10:10pm (with a 7pm start that I’m sure caught some people out).
Very traditional. Very enjoyable.

Had some reviews from friends of the "good not great" variety but I'm known to love things they say are mediocre and hate things they rave about, so I'm open minded.
The universal constant is how amazing the orchestra (yes, orchestra, not band!) are. Which is the main reason I booked for this long, long before it was cast.
This is to anyone and everyone - whether you've chatted in this thread/forum or not - how does it to compare to the Drury Lane revival?

I went to see this tonight and can’t add much more than has previously been said, an enjoyable evening.
They were filming it tonight with multi cameras so a pro shoot of some sort will be out there at some point (for those who search those things!) unless anyone knows what they were filming it for?

A perfectly fine revival but nothing extraordinary. No doubt that playing it in New York has deepened HHP's performance - he was very very good and I'm sure Amara will settle into a rounded performance. Vanessa was frail and uncertain but received warmly but Kevin Amos a disaster. He's clearly not an actor and looks uncomfortable - his two numbers never "landed". I felt the scrappy ensemble looked a little sparse but it was wonderful to hear a full orchestra.

Amara isn't getting the raves many predicted. In fact a couple of seperate people I know really didn't like her performance at all.
They were also very unkind about Stephen K Amos, who is "atrocious".
Higgins seems to be adored.
I am seeing this next week and can't wait. I might get an understudy or two, who knows!

I saw the first preview, and I don't know if it was because I love the film so much or that the show wasn't that great but I was really felt wanting. Harry is brilliant, just as good if not better than on broadway, but I felt everyone else's singing seemed a bit weak. Maybe it was the levels, but to me none of the others carried the same emotion and power he did through the songs.
Also, as with broadway, I hate the end. I can understand the message they are trying to convey, but the way it is done just seems really pointless.

My friend Paul described it her as having a sweet voice but absolutely no presence. My other friend said she was shrill. :shrug: can't wait to make my own mind up! One thing for certain, the orchestra is going to sound magnificent. |

She comes back, same as in the film, turns the recording off and says the line instead (except in the performance I saw he already turned around and saw it was her rather than recognising by the voice that the recording had been switched off), then she leaves through the audience.
I really don't understand why she would come back only to immediately leave? I understand they are trying to make her more independent but it just doesn't work for me. |

It's not particularly inspired, but I still believe it's an improvement on the original ending, which made little sense and was a true insult to George Bernard Shaw

"SIKE" The vibe I got was that she was almost ready to forgive him and willing to start over again, and the moment he asked about his slippers, he regretted it. He knew he blew it. And her reaction, IMO, proved it. |

Thoroughly enjoyed this last night. Good old fashioned musical with wonderful songs. Apart from the film I have only seen this musical once before at the NT with Martine McCuteheon.
The best bit for me was hearing it played by such a big orchestra and it sounded glorious. Alex Parker was conducting last night.
Nice sets, really good use of the revolve and fabulous costumes.
Amara as Eliza was excellent and really did justice to the part. Harry Hadden-Paton, for me, was the star. Brilliant performance.
Im afraid I was not that impressed with Stephen K Amos as Mr Doolittle. OK he could sing but his acting was not the best and his 2 numbers fell a bit flat considering that they are two of the best numbers in the show and you can make so much of them. I am sure they could have easily found someone better. But it didnt spoil it for me.
They seem to have tightened it up a bit from the first preview which someone commented earlier was 3 hours 10 mins and last nights performance finished at 10.05pm (so 5 minutes shorter). But its still a long old show.
A few empty seats in the stalls and looking at the seating plan before I came there were still quite a bit of availability in the dress and upper circle. The balcony was closed so I presume they upgraded people.
Lovely evening.
