Last night she signed everyones she reasonably could. The actual space to get near her is pretty slim as they park the car at the kerb, and so you've got the width of the kerb on either side of the stage door to line up at. She jumped up over the roof of the car at one point to get people, and she took her time at both sides. I missed out, if I'd known I would've lined up on the other side of the car when it moved in. Thankfully when she left the other leads hung around like the rest of us muggles and was able to have a chat with them. Thanks for letting me know. Get Micheal's signature on your programme too dear, he is a big star (and blooming handsome!!)

Saw this at yesterday's matinee - from the balcony - and loved it. A great production that sounded fantastic thanks to the wonderful orchestra and the brilliant acoustics of the Coliseum. Loved, Betty, Joe & Max, but Glenn Close as Norma really dominated, there seemed to be a palpable lift in atmosphere whenever she was on stage. Slightly frustrating that she spoke-sang some of the bigger notes but her acting was spot on and what she lacked in vocal technique, she more than made up for in stage presence. I loved her costumes, she looked magnificent, even swaddled in towels! The production seemd to make the most of the non-Norma scenes too, I enjoyed them a lot more than I have previously. The view from the balcony wasn't bad at all. It was only about two thirds full, so a fair bit of "musical chairs" took place once the lights went down. I suspect we missed some of the projections, most of the swimming pool (which is in the pit), and very rarely somebody's head when they were at the very top of the set, but nobody was in these spots for long. I didn't think Young Norma added much. Apart from when she danced with Joe in Perfect Year, she seemed to just wander aimlessly about. It might have worked better if she'd been doing something, striking poses from scenes from the old movies or something. And, lovely though MX looks in his trunks, I thought that scene lacked the menace the song should have - and him whipping them off under his robe was very distracting. Couldn't we just have enjoyed his torso in The Lady's Paying? Lovely production though. Very special.

For a Sunset novice; how is the title song usually staged? Hasn't it always been by the pool?

I was glad they didn't go down the US tour route of having Norma coming out half way through the song and putting sun cream on Joe. That was all rather odd and distracting.

^ This is starting to sound a lot like those personal trainers on Instagram that show progress pictures of their clients with followers either doubting or endorsing their services.

The show is brilliant. Today's 3-star review in Time Out is an absolute joke, and is both sexist and ageist. And it's obvious he knows it was great, really. Proves this publication is a shadow of its former self. Does Andrzej Lukowski even like musical theatre. I have to say I think this review is actually the best I've read. It completely sums up how I felt when I left the theatre (having had a great night I fully concede!). The performances ARE brilliant, the orchestra sounds incredible and the staging is very effective. It's just the SHOW... ?. By my count there are only two tunes in act 2 which you haven't already had rammed down your throat for an hour...("As if we never..." and "Too much in Love"). Even the title song feels like a reprise coz it's been used in every bit of underscore! And some of the lyrics...you absolutely cannot put the emphasis of the word "Studio" on the "O", but Don Black just doesn't seem to care...shoe-horning dubious couplets in and sometimes sounding completely at a loss with what to do with Webbers music...I mean why does Max have to sing "woooooooould yoooooooou ratheeeeeeer IIIIIIIIIIII poooooouuuuuuured foooooor you a dry martini.."!??! Why couldn't he have just SPOKEN THE LINE??!! I think these things annoy me more in Sunset because it is so nearly a really good musical (Lots of it is great..."Lets have lunch"etc...) ...it just seems to fall short due to slightly lazy writing...for me anyway:) And yet this this is often billed as his 'best work' I would hate to sit through the worst

^ I would disagree that this is billed as his best work. I personally think so, but based on popular vote I would doubt it would be as such. I'm sure Evita, Phantom and JCS would be billed as his best if non-Sunset fanatics would have their say (or just the general theatre public). These other shows are by far more well known and popular than Sunset ever was.

I'm assuming from this comment that you don't, Burly... Fear ye not, Caiaphas I keep myself tidy That's a relief. I know what you bears can be like... It can be time consuming, I know, but there's nothing attractive about a wayward thatch. Every time it starts to become a tiny bit tangled, think Michael! And Glenn will, no doubt, be very pleased with you too.
