I can’t wait for this. Seeing it’s final performance in Newcastle next Saturday with a friend and really hope it’s going to be spectacular!

Going to assume Dublin has either been pulled or postponed from the tour. It’s still on sale at the theatre, but has been removed from the shows website. Makes sense as Ireland is definitely a bit behind with the restriction easing. Dublin rescheduled to 23rd March - 27th March 2022

Sneak peak of songs from the sitzprobe You’d think someone could have told the ensemble that it’s being filmed and they should at least pretend to look interested. It’s the most miserable looking sitzprobe video I’ve seen in ages. Still… super excited and hopefully that this will be a hit.

It does seem to lack a bit of energy, I very much did notice that and thought it was weird. Perhaps it was at the end of the day or just filmed for that video and they were exhausted or something.

Maybe it's the thought of visiting Wolverhampton and Hull in quick succession? 🙂

one week visits doesn't leave them much time to set up, so perhaps the effects are simple. Intrigued about all the walking armour? Never had much affection for the film - my memory is off it being dark and grubbily photographed.

My friend rushed up to Newcastle last night to start work today as a production runner. All he’s told me so far of his working day is “wow”. Lucky sod gets to watch the dress rehearsal tomorrow night whilst I am stuck at work!

Opening night in Newcastle last night, and by the look of it a standing ovation!

How much does it cost to produce a touring musical cost as £3m seems like a lot for Bedknobs but then again I assume costs for sit down productions in the West End are a lot more.

I was just about to ask the same question. £3 million doesn't seem like anything to be snuffed at.
I've seen some snippets here and there of audience reactions on instagram, it seems to be inventive and pretty much what a lot were expecting.

Factor in 15(?) musicians, touring crew (stage, sound, lx), child cast + tutoring. Already well over £1million just in bodies. Then add in wages for the creative team who were working on this for the last year. Set construction. Production hires (lighting, sound) for the entire run + rehearsal. Rehearsal room/production prep hires. Venue hires & booking. Logistics to move the show around for 9 months. Insurance to book and produce a touring musical; mid-pandemic. Oh and then Disneys fat cut to license the show in the first place and the rights/royalties to Sherman Brothers. £3mill kinda seems like a bargain.

Not been on this forum for so long but popped on to read people's thoughts of opening night. Alas nobody else from the board seems to have been there.
This is the show I always wanted to be made into a musical and what they have produced is quite extraordinary. Perhaps, if anything, too ambitious as there is so much that can go wrong every night as the set is very elaborate for a touring production. There is loads going on onstage so I can only imagine what is going on off stage to keep it all moving. Literally.
I won't post any spoilers but it really is the best touring production you will see this year and the leads are perfectly cast. Dianne Pilkington a sarcastic, sassy Eglantine and Charles Brunton a bumbling, excentric Professor are a dream pairing.
The ensemble work their socks off from beginning to end and you would think there was double the cast there is the amount of roles and jobs they have to do throughout.
The magic is wonderful. There is so much humour and heart. I absolutely adored it.

If it did get a West End season, I wonder which theatre would be suitable as the tour venues are a mix of small and large.

It can’t be that spectacular if it’s moving venues every week.
Very intrigued to hear reports though with further details! A standing ovation at a first preview is obligatory.
