Angela Lansbury was meant to return to broadway and possibly the west end in a play end of last year or this year. But it's all gone very quiet on that.
I don't know if that's due to her health or things just arnt worming out, but certainly up until this year she has still been working at 90 years old

C..moon Emma Thompson in Sweeney Todd, then Glenn Close in Sunset Boulevard, how they going to top this?
Don't think the next one will be by Andrew Lloyd Webber or Stephen Sondheim.
Wouldn't be surprised if it was one by Rogers and Hammerstein or 42nd Street.
One from the either and that could be the Encore's production of Little Shop of Horrors with Jake Gyllenhaal?

Would also like to see Cabaret and bring back Alan Cumming with Judi Dench as Frauline Schneider. Probably too soon for a revival but on my wish list anyway.

I like the idea of My Fair Lady with Ann Hathaway. And I think there's many old English dudes who can play Higgins.
Would also love a revival of Kiss of the Spiderwoman. If done with minimal staging, they could bring Chita back to do it.
I also like the idea of Mame, except I think that is more suitable as a revisal with a somewhat re-written book to make it work.
Someone on another board suggested an all African-American cast of Mame, a la the Peal Bailey revival of Hello, Dolly in the late 60s. Loved that idea.

I would also love to see Follies at the ENO, think what they could do with that huge stage. Some big names as well please. Maybe bring Bernadette Peters over.
Love the idea too of 42nd Street. I have not seen it since Drury Lane which must have been late 70s. One of the first musicals I ever saw when I moved to London.
We need more tap............

But for ENO productions themselves, I adored their Patience with the huge stained glass castle unfolding and the wonderful Sandra Dugdale as Patience herself. Their Cunning little Vixen, Pacific Overtures, Semele, Xerxes and the Miller Rigoletto still stick in my head clearly.

I would say The King and I would be a great musical to do, but I imagine it probably wouldn't happen if the Broadway production is still expected to come over. Maybe it could join forces with the ENO?

OK,I have given this some thought (as you do!)
If the choice of show is composer led, after Sondheim and ALW, Rogers & Hammerstein have to be next. I don't think Oklahoma or Carousel have been done in London since the NT revivals - years ago.
OR the producers simply ask an A List Actor (such as Hugh Jackman, Meryl Streep) what show they would be prepared/like to do in London for 5 weeks.
My two choices on my "wish list" which would make me dizzy with excitement and completely melt my credit card would be....
Angela Lansbury as Madame Armfeldt in A Little Night Music. The character is in a wheel chair throughout. Could she/would she do it?
OR
Judi Dench as Fraulein Schneider in Cabaret. Could she/would she do it?

Carousel had a revival at the savoy about 5 or so years ago with lesley garret.
If they want to keep the £150 top price they will need to keep delivering a-list stars. I can't see people paying out otherwise

Both Cabaret and Little Night Music have been on the West End semi-recently. I think Sunset sold well because of the show itself combined with the casting.

I doubt they'd want to do another ALW straight away, but two scores where they could add value with the big orchestra would be Hunchback and Kristina. Probably too risky though.

At "Blithe Spirit," every time she closed her eyes while lying down, the audience held its breath. If I'm really honest, I kinda feel safer with cast members who have a better than 50/50 chance of making it to the end of the night, really. We had such a fuss at the box office when Glenn Close missed 4 shows due to being unwell, can you imagine the meldowns if she died? "I paid £150 to see Angela Lansbury - resuscitate her immediately". |

How about Into the Woods with Meryl Streep?
We can also cast Simon Russell Beale and he can get the chance to sing his song as it was cut for the film. But from the film we can use the big lush orchestrations and not the small chamber ones.

I think the ENO should do a huge production of Titanic. Hunchback would also be sensational with that choir!
In reality I think we are getting Carousel or 42nd Street.
