Having listened to the score a few times there are definitely some great tunes in there and Act 1 is considerably stronger than Act 2, but the issue i have the show is with the characters of Jan and Paul Crouch, played by Amy Booth-Steel and Richard Dempsey. Compared to everyone else, they come across as cartoon characters. The over acting, the accents, the purple hair, and their second act song 'run this show' all play to a slapstick level that feels out of place to me. The script is already funny. Bringing it down to something more realistic could help bring more weight to the story.

Bringing it down to something more realistic could help bring more weight to the story. My thoughts, exactly. The accents were terrible and their song is the show's lowest point. My strongest criticism of the show (even though I adored it) is that it is hard for the oddball, endearing qualities Tammy Faye possessed to register on stage when the characters surrounding her are portrayed as overblown and cartoonish. We need less of Jan and Paul Crouch and more of Jessica Hahn as she loomed large in the downfall of the Bakkers and became a household name in America (for all of the wrong reasons).

I saw it last night and I am afraid I am in the minority that was not enthused by the show. Katie Bryben is phenomenal but the second Act was rather flat and I did not feel much wiser after seeing the show. Maybe the entire story and reality of televangelist is too far from my experience (I am Italian).

It will be difficult to improve this show because everyone has wildly different ideas as to what should be done....I quite like "run this show" but thought that "look how far we've fallen" was much the weakest song melodically if not lyrically...in fact the only tune which was truly mediocre in my opinion...

I still haven't heard any of the score... Where can I find even some extracts? Google hasn't been helpful

Any word on where this might go? I’ve heard a transfer may not be for a good while, if at all here.

Any word on where this might go? I’ve heard a transfer may not be for a good while, if at all here. And is that due to someone’s “personal circumstances” changing? I saw this last night and thought it was brilliant. I didn’t read too many comments on here first because I wanted to go in without knowing much, but I know people said it needed some work before it transfers. For me, I don’t feel like it does, it seemed pretty solid, but you can see a big difference from act 1 to 2. 1 is very fun, 2 is the total opposite, but tbh a lot of shows follow that setup.

I’ve heard a transfer may not be for a good while, if at all here. So it wasn't built for the West End via Islington? Someone mentioned about a pregnancy? Might that be the leading lady? Or was someone speculating?

What with this suggestion and the Into the Woods no show, to use the words of Ryan, late of this parish, "I might riot". If this goes straight to Broadway I'll be really p***ed off.

I didn't notice at the first preview, but i'll definitely look out for it on Monday!

I feel a little uncomfortable with the pregnancy speculation quite honestly.
I don’t know the exact reason for the lack of transfer news - but they aren’t currently looking at any theatres. (The fact none are available is a part of that of course)

Managed to get tickets again for the 30th. At least I can see it once more, just in case it doesn't transfer

A lot of the information here is not quite correct. Of course sometimes unexpected things happen and choices have to be made.
But remember things are often planned months or even years ahead of being announced to the public. Best of Enemies booked its West End transfer before the original run was over, but didn’t announce it for six months.

While I hope they do announce a transfer soon, I also hope that it doesn't reopen until late spring/summer so they can go away and do some much-needed work, especially on the second act.
I think the broad consensus is that is a good show, (certainly a very entertaining one) but could be a great one with the right revisions.

It will be a little while before this comes in. Slight bump in the road with casting.

It will be a little while before this comes in. Slight bump in the road with casting. They’re delaying it so that one of the leads can transfer with it then presumably? That’s a bit funny, if the transfer has always been planned why would someone go and make conflicting commitments?

I think "bump" in the road is meant as a pun.

Of course the bump delaying things could mean that other cast members’ availability changes for the West End run.
