Good to see deals turning up, one of my must see plays and just waiting for the right deal, pleased to see day seats are likely to be available when ready to book.

The link says "Event not found" but its OK, I have now found it on TKTS. No tix for the deal price when I checked and I don't want to leave it until the day as getting a ticket for this largely determines whether it's worth going to London or not but I'm happy to wait and see - it's still only previewing. |

A bit over half full this afternoon and just before the curtain we were all told we could move up to fill available seats if we wanted to.
Funny and the cast are all good but it just didn't really hold together for me. It felt like the second half monologue kind of came out of nowhere and took over and drove things for quite a while and just kinda lost me.

I saw this last night and after hearing reports from friends that it didn't quite make it, I found it to be a happy and very funny surprise with terrific turns by Janie Dee, Michael Maloney and Rebecca Lacey. A Lot of the references are very American Pop culture, but it doesn't really matter. Jane Dee is especially hilarious as the vain movie star and Mr Maloney has a monologue in the second act that is wonderfully balanced between rage and desperation. Ms Lacy nearly steals the play from those two with an ongoing hilarious imitation of Maggie Smith. Worthwhile and funny ( especially if you can get a deal).

I really struggled to connect with this last night. Most of the performances were great, but I didn't really care for the play itself. I was expecting a laugh out loud riot based on what I'd read on here and elsewhere but maybe only chuckled a couple of times. Theatre was probably just under half full which maybe didn't help with the atmosphere.
I'm only familiar with Uncle Vanya, but I'm not sure if my unfamiliarity with the rest of Chekhov's work was the reason that I didn't really enjoy it that much, as I didn't think being familiar with Uncle vanya really added anything to my enjoyment of this piece at all. Glad I gave it a go but won't be rushing back.

Just caught the matinee passed the theatre and spur of the moment gave it a go . Glad we did a very enjoyable afternoon we enjoyed it and found it funny a couple of laugh out loud moments mostly chuckles but that’s ok .
Great talented cast superb acting 🎭 throughout Charlie Maher was a sight for sore eyes 👀🤩 too which helped keep our attention . Janie dee channeling Christine baransky was a as delight her wafting along attempting to sing Snow White made me laugh out loud
I knew nothing about the play before or Chekhov or Vanya. But don’t think the mattered at all , 4/5 from us

I have seen some of Christopher's Durang's plays before and I was looking forward to this one. It is a very funny play, clever without being pedantic (the Chekhovian references are well done and relevant to the characters). I don't understand many of the criticisms: why would you have to be laughing non-stop in a comedy? Comedy is a matter of tone, seeing things with distance and humour while caring for the characters, unlike farce, for instance.
And what a cast! Not only are of all them very good, they seem to be having the time of their lives working together. Direction is very good too, comedy beats are perfect and the play sails smoothly.
It is a pity that the theatre was almost empty; still, the cast gave it all and it deserves a better run. I will try to see it again and definitively will recommend it to everyone.
Go and see this play!

Enjoyed revisiting this last night having seen it on Broadway back in 2013. Its a really sharp play, albeit somewhat laggs during the monologue in the second half. House was half full at the very most, probably less.
Charing Cross Theatre could really do with a revamp, huh?

I really enjoyed this at yesterday's matinee; it was even better than expected with the first laugh only a few lines in. As noted above, it's more a case of chuckles than laugh-out-loud funny but the humour continued throughout and if this is Chekhov with laughs, more, please! I did find that the second act monologue dragged and became incoherent and repetitive so whilst I know this reflected the character's own confusion, I think it could have done with editing but otherwise it was not only thoroughly enjoyable but one of the best things I've seen in months.
The only downside was having, for the entirety of the first act (and we're talking an hour each side of the interval) 2 very fidgety and noisy children sitting directly behind, constantly whispering, unwrapping one sweet after another, kicking my seat and wriggling audibly. Both I and the lady sitting next to me shot them increasingly filthy looks and after a while, the other lady even hissed at them "stop talking!" but to no avail. We can't have been the only people disturbed but the adult woman with them seemed either unwilling or unable to restrain them. Fortunately they didn't return after the interval but what were the parents or carers thinking of? Older teenagars might certainly enjoy it but it's not a play for children.

Finally got to see this and really enjoyed it. The cast were clearly having a ball with the piece and some really funny moments. There was a good balance between comedy and contemplation so definitely worth a visit, if not, then for Charlie Maher’s body.
About 40% full when I went last night. Pretty sure I heard ushers say people could sit where they wanted and found a couple in my seat when I arrived… still, a fun evening and I hope people get to see it.

Nice to see a family comedy/drama (?), the show has always intrigued me from when it was on Broadway so was lovely to finally see it. (A moment for Charlie Maher's body, ok moment over)
A nice tight cast with a pretty solid show, the act 2 monologue did drag on a bit and you could probably trim 5 mins of each act BUT it was a pleasant evening, lovely set, a shame it wasnt better attended but the cast still gave a fabulous performance.
