I love Into The Woods, shame about Terry Gilliam being inolved though, can’t stand him.

This is going to be one of the most hardly fought casting processes... The list of potential names for the Baker's Wife and The Witch alone would give you a headache! Will be very interesting to see how they go about staging and casting this!

I actually wouldn't mind if Nunn or Caird directed. It would be interesting to see how they would adapt this show. But yeah, I'd rather if Staunton didn't play the Witch. I don't mind her as Jack's Mother, but that's it.

Yay! I hope this is a landmark revival like Company, London seems to do rather well with a good revival, I think the Old Vic is a great theatre to do this show in. High hopes for this!

Expect the casting for this not to be traditional West End names (it's not going to be like Follies in terms of our big theatre names) - I think they're going down the route of 'actors who can sing' for a lot of the roles (but agree the Witch MUST be a big belty West End gal)

I've seen about 15 productions of Into the Woods including the original Broadway - and Imelda Staunton was, hands down the best Baker's Wife I've seen, in what was by far the best production too. Interestingly at the time it was rumoured that both she and Julia McKenzie had been considered for both the Witch and the Baker's Wife (with on-one else in contention) until Richard Jones made his final decision. Had it gone the other way then 'Our Little World' may never have seen the light of day.

He's not much loved in the arts industry...

Interesting. I remember McKenzie saying in an interview that she would love to have played the Baker's Wife, but she was considered too old (or 'out of child bearing years' as she put it) by 1990, and so she settled for the Witch. Can't imagine Staunton and her in the opposite roles, since they were perfectly cast to my mind. McKenzie sang the sh!t out of it. The London cast album is my favourite recording of the score. 

Audra McDonald would be at the top of my list for the Witch for this production but I doubt that would happen. Kate Fleetwood would be great in terms of theatre actors not really associated with musicals - can she sing? - didn't she do London Road ten years ago?

Kate Fleetwood did! And was due to play Cruella at Regents Parks 101 Dalmatians. Would be an interesting choice!

Kate Fleetwood also played Tracy Lord in High Society at the Old Vic in 2015, directed by someone who has never appeared in Into the Woods even though she was a very likely casting choice - Maria Friedman.

I loved the original London production. It was completely different to most productions since the Broadway original. I wonder if 'Our Little World' will be included in this Old Vic version.

LOVE this concept. They did this for High Society and to echo a post just now - Kate Fleetwood would be amazing casting.
