I just wish she’d tell me where - what I know I share (within reason and permission). People don’t realise who knows who and what gets leaked. Nearly all of the stuff shared from ITK people on here is out long before the theatre press Edit: I know of four West End “stars” who get information from here when other people aren’t speaking |

Honestly can't wait to watch this again one day, the moment it's announced I'll be booking tickets for opening night, hotel and train.
I wish more than anything that I could've got back to Bath but thats not going to happen.
Let's just hope for not too many cast changes. Everyone is perfect in their respective roles.

Deal J Thanks for that detailed post. The 3rd from last paragraph sounds far too gruesome for me. The Regent's Park production was on the edge of what I can cope with & this one sounds worse. So now I know definitely not to go & see this if it does indeed transfer.

Other tricks and flights of fancy: {HUGE Spoilers - click to view}For the Witch’s first entrance she appears at the Bakery door window, which the Baker closes the blind on, then almost immediately she’s at their first floor window, then back again.
The Witch has her usual spell flashes that zap at the groins of the Baker and his Wife.
The ghost of Cinderella’s mother is heard through an oversized pink flower in a stem vase. The head of the flower raises and gestures as it sings, dropping her petals to Cinderella’s feet. When she appears later on her ball gown looks like it’s been made using the petals.
As the Wolf attempts to lure Red away from the path, he sings “You’re missing all the flowers…”, and as he points a number of roses fly down from the sky landing bolt upright on the stage. Much more impressive than it sounds.
Mysterious Man frequently appears from behind trees without any hint that he’d been hiding there.
The giant pocket watch is originally used as the first beanstalk which Jack climbs down and sits atop to sing “Giants in the Sky”. It’s then used several times throughout the rest of the show, swinging in like a pendulum for each midnight gone (accompanied by the cuckoo clock atop the fake proscenium arch) and finally to dispose of the Witch.
The faux theatre boxes at the sides are opened as a window into the Royal Castle, and during the Prince’s shoe fitting as the Stepmother attempts to bring her daughters’ feet down to size, blood drips down the wall below.
Red Riding Hood’s rescue from the Wolf’s stomach is particularly gruesome. The Wolf is in Granny’s four poster bed, and as the Baker cuts his belly open, Red emerges dripping in blood and covered in entrails, closely followed by a vengeful Granny equally drenched. Both have strong Glaswegian accents, and they really play up their violent intentions.
I didn’t mind the backdrop, I thought it added a bit of extra depth in the darker scenes. It was also used to show (in silhouette) the banishment of Rapunzel’s Prince and his fall into the thicket of thorns. Similarly as the Royal Family attempt to escape to a far-off Kingdom, they exit the “theatre” only to be captured by the Giant’s Wife (“No you don’t - that’s cheating!”) who grabs them all (again in silhouette) lifting them to their doom.
The Giant’s Wife is voiced by the little girl, her doll’s feet are HUGE and stomp around the stage controlled by people underneath. The soles are hollow, so she can step on the other characters and have them disappear underneath. She’s supposed to be a large doll that doesn’t “fit” in the toy theatre properly, so it works well within the framework of this production. Her huge “plastic” arm sweeps down out of the wings to grab the Narrator, and when the survivors eventually slay her, her huge broken head lands on the stage (looking a little like the poster of Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?).
My descriptions don’t do the real thing justice at all, everything is just so BIG and imaginative. There are plenty of other delights I’ve not mentioned here too, but hopefully this at least gives a flavour for those who won’t be able to see the show. I turned around during the bows and it looked like the entire house were on their feet - quite right, too! Thank you! I must say it sounds fantastic and all that theatrical trickery is right up my street. I think I’ll go if it transfers. |

That comment about rows having to be taken off sale for that effect are absolute nonsense. It doesn’t fall anywhere near the front row.

They mean 6x £150 seats = £900 lost. Mr B is right though. As long as the stage is regularly swept & mopped it shouldn’t really affect anyone.

If they have taken any front row seats off sale for Bath, it will be so they can squeeze the band in.
IF this does transfer, they will either have a large enough pit to house the band, or they will remove seats. It’s standard practice for the front row to often be held off sale until later for just that reason. Producers often factor in losing seats due to making room for the band, sightlines etc.

For those who have seen this. Best place to view from? Thx As central as possible. The horseshoe curve of the circles mean a lot of outer seats are restricted view in one capacity or another. Further back to be able to take the full scale in. |

Really enjoyed this when I went and even managed to bump into Terry Gilliam in the bar. My friends and I thought Milky White was the highlight of the show and found the set pieces innovative and exciting. The production really captures the humour and levity of Sondheim as well as the poignant moments too. Barney Wilkinson’s Jack was another highlight for me and it seems almost certain now that Alex Young will continue to grow as a name in the musical theatre world. Again, practically unrecognisable whenever I’ve seen her in a show. I don’t know if this will get a further life soon but whispers suggest that a transfer somewhere is in early discussions.

The way the costume works has her arms higher than legs I believe, so must offer some more support she does it fantastically though |

Milky far from spends the duration of the show hunched over stationary. The rehearsal footage on WoS socials demonstrates the movement quite well as only the legs are used, no cow head or torso. |

Given that he's such an important part of the story line in the first act, it's interesting how Milky White is the only character in the show not to carry across to Act 2
