When does Imelda finish in Dolly? With all the best will in the world, no thanks. I'd like to see Sharon D Clark have a go at the witch though.

When does Imelda finish in Dolly? She was amazing as The Bakers Wife, so I'd happily see her do The Witch, though i think 1 big musical per year would be enough for her.

James Corden and Sheridan Smith as the Baker and Baker’s Wife. Would never happen with James right now and I’m sure the majoirty of the board would HATE this idea but my god they’d sell tickets!

Considering its the great man's 90th birthday this year, so far apart from the Opera North offering, there has been nothing announced . Here's hoping Chichester and the Menier come up with something appropriate.

I'm sure at some point I had heard Chichester were going to do Into the Woods, maybe that was meant to be last year and never happened though, who knows. I guess time will tell if any other Sondheim shows appear this year.

Would like to see productions of Merrily and Passion pop up this year myself - I think the Menier could do a really great Passion actually.

I'm gonna predict Hannah Waddingham returning to the part.

I'm gonna predict Hannah Waddingham returning to the part. I wouldn't object to it - she was excellent in the Regents Park production.

I adore Sondheim but for me this has always felt one of his weaker shows.

Yep, ninetieth birthday and all that will hopefully see lots of shows. Pacific Overtures anyone?

I wonder if this will be West End or somewhere like the National.

I hope they take costume inspiration from the Disney film. It truly looked beautiful and had a great design for the witch making her a blue fairy type figure.
Aslong as they don't mess with the book like the film did.

Aslong as they don't mess with the book like the film did. I don't recall them making hardly any changes to the book. I seem to recall it being fairly true to the original stage version. How did they mess with the book?

Interesting. Recent Sondheim productions from England have been very good lately. It's one to keep an eye on. It all comes down to the producer and the director attached.

I wonder if this will be West End or somewhere like the National. Surely the National would have announced it by now? They're programmed to the summer as it is. Proms?

Aslong as they don't mess with the book like the film did. I don't recall them making hardly any changes to the book. I seem to recall it being fairly true to the original stage version. How did they mess with the book? The major two is that the narrator is gone and Rapunzel doesn't die. The former makes sense for a film as although I think it could have worked it would have been difficult to pull off and I feel it probably wouldn't have gone over well with audiences. However not having Rapunzel die completely ruins the witches' motivations in my opinion. The emotional stakes are lost and her songs after what would originally be her death are less impactful in the film. I also think the mysterious man is gotten rid of but the Baker's father still randomly shows up for a scene but there's no No More in the film which I think is a tragic loss because I love that song. There's also no Agony reprise so Rapunzel completely has a happily ever after which totally goes against the moral of the musical as she survives and runs away with her loving prince.

The darkness of the second act of the musical is very watered down in the movie, from a moral perspective rather than in the plot (eg: the Baker's wife only kisses the prince, while in the musical is suggested that they had sex in the woods, etc).
