Nina is one of the least interesting characters in the piece. Far more likely to want to see it if they have a great Arkadina - she is the centre of the piece.
But Clarke's range is not huge - so Nina might just work. But it isn't enough for me to be interested.

I'm surprised it's taken Emilia Clarke so long to do a West End play.

Am assuming it's the same Anya Reiss version which was done at Southwark Playhouse (when it was still under the arches at London Bridge) about 7/8 years ago. If so it's a highly anglicised version - relocated to the Isle of Man - and very modern. I rather enjoyed it - and whilst I agree that usually The Seagull hinges on who plays Arkadina, the thing I most remember was how in this version Nina seemed to be at the heart of it - and Lily James, who I hadn't really heard of at the time, was luminous in the part.

Actually quite excited about this.

This is the version of the play Anya Reiss produced in 2012 to mixed reviews. I didn't see it. However her absurd hatchet job on Three Sisters (quite ridiculously set in Dubai) was so offensively bad I will happily avoid this. Only doing modish updates of the classics rather than producing their own new work is a lazy way for a playwright to make a living (I believe these days she writes for EastEnders). Also Jamie Lloyd is a brilliant producer but a very poor director.
Odd that Learfan didn't say "Never heard of Emilia Clarke", so I'll say it, never heard of her. At 33 she's way too old for the part of course.

I too may book for this as I quite like Emilia Clarke. It is the same role Saoirse Ronan played in a recent film adaptation.

Seagull one of my favourite plays, picked up a Row D stalls for a Saturday in April, more than I would normally be prepared to shell out, now will be inundated with offers as I have broken my new West End rule of not waiting.
Will be interesting to see how popular this will be, have been surprised by the popularity of Cyrano and the dearth of offers available and this will likely be the same.

have been surprised by the popularity of Cyrano He's a great actor with a wide fanbase drawn from various 'franchises' (as I suppose we must now call them) and currently in His Dark Materials so I can totally see the appeal of Cyrano - it's way out of my price range, however. I'm waiting to see who else turns up in the cast and if they have offers for this.

Just managed to get in the room for £15 + fee, and that was a weekday matinee. Everything now looks to be north of £32. Either ATG are holding back or the Mother of Dragons has set the box office on fire.

In old-fashioned terms, I suspect Emilia Clarke is *box office*.

Got the email at the airport on my way back from my Lomdon-trip before Christmas and booked straight away on my phone. This is just because of Emilia Clarke, enjoy her but don't expect amaziong acting from her tbh. Also avoid Chekhov plays like the plague usually. So this will be an interesting experience. Just hope it doesn't look as boring as Cyrano...
