If it's Rupert Goold, most likely to be at the Almeida - their currently announced season ends on 27th June, there's normally a week or so break between shows, and their usual runs are 6 weeks, so the dates all fit.

When was the last time the Almeida have done a revival of a musical?

I think American Psycho was 'original' and then went to Broadway after, I don't think that was a revival.
And I am sooo freaking excited for Spring Awakening, absolutely love that show.

American Psycho was SO GOOD. And even better in NYC with a better cast. Still hoping one day it will return here, I think it was a bit ahead of its time. I loved both versions and both casts (with my personal favourite in the cast being in both productions, so I had a win/win). I totally get that Matt Smith couldn't sing the part but it kinda worked for me as just another bit of the Patrick Bateman delusion. And his ad-lips were hilarious so I did enjoy him. Saw it a few times here and unfortunately only got to see it twice on Broadway. Benjamin Walker was definitely the better singer though and, for me personally, also a lot easier on the eye. LOL Absolutely agree that it was ahead of its time for Broadway (and probably the West End, too, if it had made it back here) but am crossing everything that we'll get to see the show again some time. |

Rebecca Frecknall will be directing this I believe. I could see her doing a really delightful job with the visual abstract language of the piece. I would have also liked to have seen Sally Cookson's take on the material.

Wait so who's directing? Rupert Goold or Rebecca Frecknall? I'm happy with either in all honesty and they both have experience directing musicals (or I guess more plays with music in Frecknall's case). Can't wait to see this in any case because I've only ever heard the cast recording which I love, never had the chance to see it in person.

When I have attended the Almeida always got the impression that the audience is an older Guardian reading intelligentsia, which pretty much defines me too. However they’re going for a well known musical that appeals to a younger audience, which may read the Guardian, but more likely online. The Almeida would never have done this show in a million years 18 months ago, but have being forced to because of circumstances. It just shows the heavy lift it will be to get theatre back in a meaningful way. They should just transfer the Hope Mill production. It deserved a bigger audience. I enjoyed the Hope Mill version, good production values,I was at the same performance as you. But sadly the Almeida is only a producing house. |

Agree with you that it's a very un-Almeida show though, unless they're going to radically change the production. I did see it in Hammersmith but didn't love it, would be interesting to see in a very different context... |

If ever there was a song for right now its Totally F****d!
I saw this twice at the Novello including closing night which was amazing. The encore of the above mentioned song after the bows was out of this world. Shame the show mainly sold to those who could only afford it with a discount.
I will definitely have to make a trip to the Almeida
