What’s with the Anti-Imelda brigade?! She’s one of our finest performers. Didn’t y’all see her in Gypsy? I can’t wait to see her take on Dolly.. it won’t be the usual camp schtick. And there in lies the problem because that’s exactly what the show is and needs.

And we’re kind of back in the realms of ‘Sunset’. If people just want to see the film replicated or a previous production, maybe just watch that? Imelda will bring warmth and something undefinable to Dolly rather than yet another Channing/La Rue knock off.

Maybe Jamie Lloyd will direct this too and have Imelda in only a bra and panties to symbolize Dolly’s vulnerability and Harmonia Gardens will be filled with people bleeding from the eyes and fire all around them to envision the restaurant (and all of its patrons) is in Hell.

Same as Norma Desmond who people often write off as such.

To be fair to Imelda her Umbridge in Harry Potter was the epitome of camp so if she can bring some of that energy it should be really fun. (Not that Dolly is evil!)

Saw Imelda in Guys and Dolls at The National in 1997, playing Miss Adelaide. Sex kitten + 26 years. I think she'll be amazing.

Still don't think Jenna's right for this, as wonderful as she is. Really enjoyed Harry in Chichester's Assassins but am once again saddened talk of that transfer died.

Seems report has been deleted! Wonder if Charlie stemp will reprise… No? "joining Staunton and Nyman will be Jenna Russell as Irene Molloy, Tyrone Huntley as Barnaby Tucker and Harry Hepple as Cornelius Hackl"

Lovely they've retained so many of the leads (however wildly miscast one of them seems) - but as with Sunset, I didn't understand how it could possibly work and it does, so I'm excited to see.

Well I'm thrilled and great cast. I was booked for this before Covid did it's worst and had booked a vip package as I wanted a special night. So depends on prices as to whether I will do that but definitely will be there.

If anything it’s Michael Harrison that’s putting me off this.

I'm annoyed by what Cooke says about finding the depth in the show since the depth has always been there. Dolly addresses several monologues to her dead husband and act one literally ends with her announcing her decision to return to live and enjoy life. It might not be Ibsen, but it is disingenuous to claim that the show hasn't always had a more understated layer. A lot of actors and directors lately have been talking about traits of their roles or shows as if they had discovered gold, while in fact those have always been the defining elements of the character or show. Interesting that Love, Look in My Window is being restored from the Merman's run, especially since the song has the exact same meaning and purpose of Before the Parade Passes By. Perhaps Cooke should pay more attention to the text before overstating

The shows become a star character vehicle and the character has become more of a caricature

I have absolute confidence Staunton is the right person for that. I cannot wait for this.

You’re welcome!
Really annoyed Jenna is still doing this. Irene needs someone with a good voice.

For clarity I do not WANT Lesley Joseph, but this will absolutely be toured by Harrison by someone Lesley, someone off Corrie or other such d-list star
