My god I think I’ll have had enough Cinders to last a lifetime by then 🥺 But hopefully Hope Mill's version will have less backstage drama! Plus a decent score and lyrics.

You need to be able to sing to play the R&H Cinders...

They´re sadly ditching Danny Troob´s stunning orchestrations, so they could adapt them for her... I´d rather not suggest how.

There's no way they could do a full orchestration at such a small theatre - Jason Carr is a very good orchestrator and has lots of experience orchestrating for small bands. OK, it won't sound like it did on Broadway, but I'm sure the score is safe in his hands.

She'll be terrific I think - very glad this score is getting an outing in a proper production again

It’s a no from me. I don’t rate her at all. Also I’ve never been sure that I want to see this story in a space the size of the Hope mill, or a R&H score done by a tiny band. If it gets raves I’ll be a turncoat and go later in the run maybe but nah… I don’t fancy it.

Same here. Danny Troob´s orchestrations for the 2013 Broadway production were wonderful. A tiny band cannot do this, or any Rodgers and Hammerstein score justice.

I love the score, but the theatre looks too claustrophobic for me.

It looks like a load of teen girls will be flocking to the Hope Mill in November with this casting. Thinking about further casting - would love to see Joanna Riding play Marie/Fairy Godmother,

Grace looks beautiful in the promo shots and I like her usually but her vocal in that video is not impressing me.
They're obviously going after the younger audience with the casting.

The positive to take from that is Jacob Fowler. His voice shows a real empathy for the melody. He is truly at home in the music and he has an instinctive feel for the phrasing.
Sadly there it ends.
The big negative is the woefully thin orchestration. As noted above, the recent Broadway version was rich and opulent, lush and evocative. This is weak and empty.
Grace Mouat isn't bad. But she isn't at home in this repertoire. She is singing the notes not feeling them. And with a score like this, you have to be inside each phrase, feeling the ebb and flow.
Mr Fowler stands out as being the real talent in the room here.

It’s probably just me being paranoid but the location of Hope Mill puts me off seeing this. I’ve only been there once to see Passion, but walking to and from the theatre alone was pretty grim, even in broad daylight I felt quite isolated and alone in a way that I don’t normally. I know there’s a tram stop, but still I wouldn’t want to be hanging around there on my own after dark.

I know there’s a tram stop, but still I wouldn’t want to be hanging around there on my own after dark. I've walked to and from Hope Mill at least 10 times (the only times I haven't walked is when it's been pouring with rain) and I've never felt unsafe. You're only down the road from retail, modern apartments and a large hotel. I've also walked around the local housing areas when I've had time to fill. Felt no different to areas of Birmingham or London to me. And there are usually people getting on with their daily life. Plus plenty of people walking back to the tram (or the city centre) after the evening shows end. With that said, there's no need to feel uncomfortable. It's a lovely theatre when you get in. You can get an Uber (or other preferred cab) from the centre for under £10 each way, pay for a ticket to the show and buy a drink at the bar and still end up spending last money than a ticket alone for a show in a central theatre.

Looks like Grace Mouat is out “for the foreseeable future” due to “injury” and Ria Tanaka is playing Ella.

Oh that is so sad - she’s worked so hard and for this to happen. Wishing her a speedy recovery.
