Has anyone set up an alert for Chess on TodayTix, and then kept getting notifications that tickets are on sale only to find that they aren’t actually?

Having seen the sitzprobe video on Facebook, I was struck by the over-energetic new Arbiter who is really over-singing everything. Given he is supposed to be the calm one, it seemed an odd choice to make.

It would be quite boring if it was a carbon copy of what has gone before.

Michael Ball did a pretty good job of Anthem. But look at that orchestra!!! They are going to produce some sound on the night. I think it's going to be amazing.

Sorry - but the way the role of the Arbiter is written is as someone who is obsessed with the rules and determined to see them carried out to the letter. There is nothing in the writing to suggest someone who is over-energetic or even frenetic.
Yes, roles have to be interpreted - but you have to work with the material not completely against it. There is scope enough to be original without disregarding what has actually been written.

The orchestra, for me, is the biggest attraction. The performers in the clip all sound decent enough, but this is still not a cast that particularly excites me. The draw is hearing that music performed by those musicians - although having said that, it's a relief to hear that Ms. Janson isn't indulging in Idina-style screlting.

I’ve been a little bit naughty, taking the piss out of this over the past few weeks... but I love the sound of this! Anthem is one of those songs that makes my heart thump and my spine tingle. And if anyone can get the audience stirred by it, it’s Mr Ball. (If anyone was there at Les Mis’ 25th to hear him belt out, “My place is here, I fight with you!” you’ll know what I mean...) It’s going to be okay...

It’s going to be okay... I agree. What a relief to see (from the short clip) that it's going to be properly sung. Compare and contrast with the Ramin version - everyone trying to out-sing, out-screech and out-melisma each other. I like what I've heard and I'm really looking forward to seeing this in 2 weeks.

All that highly unnecessary “riffing” can go for starters. What is it with these performers who insist on embellishing in this way? You’re already on stage, you already have everyone in the room looking at you. It’s really not necessary.

All this talk of contestants "making the song their own" and "putting a unique spin on it". Just dreadful.

I bet Murray never riffed... Perhaps that’s it... he didn’t riff enough... not a single whiff of a riff...

How embarrassing for everyone concerned. Sounds like they were more concerned about casting a “name” than establishing if that person was really suitable. “Gaga is out but I’m still chasing down Murray Head for the Arbiter!” “Is Murray still working?” “Don’t worry I’m sure I can get him to do it” Only just seen this. Hope all is well with the elder Mr Head but disappointed to hear he's pulled out

There's loads of £15 balcony tickets available through the ENO website, and the booking fee there is only £1.75 as opposed to TodayTix's £3 (When I look on TodayTix it says the total for the £15 seats including fee is £18, not £21 as you mentioned)

^Been discussed on here before. Row A legroom is very tight, all other rows the seats are where the old benches were, so they are high and there is space for legs to "dangle," so OK to about 5ft 9. Back row aisles you can turn sideways for unlimited room. View depends if people lean forward and how far the stage extends out and what is done there. You will almost certainly miss the front of the stage, but row C back loses less and doesn't have the rails in view. ok cool, thanks!
