I'm not going to get to Manchester to see this I know, but wish I could as I love this show.
I didn't know the "story" when I first saw it at the Donmar and was truly shocked by the (true) ending.
Saw it again at the Southwark Playhouse and took friends who also enjoyed it.
Not a complete fan of everything by JRB but this is a favourite. Hope this is a good production for theatregoers further up the country.
Theatre sounds lovely too.

I love Parade (which sounds wrong given the story), such good songs and a heartbreaking story.
I've only seen two amateur productions and both were great, but Manchester isn't close enough to me to get to for this.

I hope you enjoy, Burly, and look forward to hearing your thoughts. Saw it twice at the old Southwark Playhouse which was an absolutely exquisite musical production and I also saw an am dram version in Guildford whilst I was studying. It's one of my favourite musicals but I have to limit myself with how many times I can watch it as when you properly invest in this show it can be one of the most emotional evenings you can have in a theatre! |

I LOVE this show.
I must admit for me the cast recording was a slow burner.
I too saw both the Southwark and the Donmar production and I don't think I've ever been as moved in musical. In fact to this day, every time I tell someone about it I get shivers down my spine and goosebumps.
I've said it many times and I'll say it again; i swear this is a movie just waiting to be made.

Oh, how I WISH I'd seen the Donmar production. I was 13 when it was on there, musicals were well on my radar but definitely not something like a JRB musical and definitely not Parade! I usually enjoy lush, large orchestras and scores, but I really find the Donmar recording (the entire show, dialogue included!!) with its reduced chamber orchestrations to be so much more emotionally and vocally impacting that the rather over-produced OBCR.
A movie sounds ideal, I just worry that it would be "dumbed down" in the process, unless it was done in a way in which the London Road film was produced, quite low-key and relatively low-budget but still gritty, dark and truthful.

I read in my Southwark Playhouse programme that Parade is making its Machester debut at a venue I haven't heard of before, the Hope Mill Theatre.
nyone in that area and wants to see a first class, feel everything musical, see this, it is brilliant. I may even make the journey outside the M25 myself to see this.
Also glad that Manchester has a new fringe area and local brethren are supporting this new venue.

Unallocated seating. Just buy your ticket in advance and turn up on the night. First in gets best seats I guess. Looking forward to it

Where is the theatre? Is it in the Gay Village? It's in a bit of a strange spot, not "heart of the city centre" as they adventurously claim on their web! If you stay Oxford road area its a good 30 mins walk, or two trams (change at Piccadilly) to new Islington then a 5 minute walk. To be honest I'd get an uber. |

I understand the trams are a bit of a nightmare at the moment or going to be, because of the second city crossing?

Yes it's in the east end of the city. There's always something going on with the trams on one line or another. Just Google Metrolink for service updates.

I'm going to have to try and get up to Manchester as this is my favourite show and it doesn't come along very often. It's also quite a hard sell as a show so I hope it does well.

I'm at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon but getting from there to the theatre by 6 if I get out of OT about 1700?

Blush - I went and got very very drunk once I eventually got evacuated (ooh err!). Well, it was stressful!
Still gutted I missed it though, if only I had researched properly before I planned my travel.

Saw this on Saturday. It was absolutely brilliant as expected. Loved the venue and found it very easy to get to by tram from the city centre.
You need to change your e-ticket at the bar for a plastic token which you hand in to gain admission. We managed to be first into the performance space and had our pick of seats. Wouldn't have liked to have been sat at the side as part of the performance was done behind the seats and the people sat there looked quite uncomfortable twisting round.

I know you will be very impressed. There is a big announcement today apparently.
It opens at one and everybody waits in the bar area. We arrived at about two and positioned ourselves near to the entrance to the performance area and hence got our pick of seats.
Don't think you have to exchange tickets but there are people with clipboards asking for your name which they tick off a list. Maybe they are just ensuring people aren't double printing e-tickets.
We were lucky to spot Aidan Banyard in the bar before it started and had a very nice chat with him and his parents. He was absolutely amazing by the way, and he also came over to us when it had finished. Sure we will be seeing him in London before long. Also thought Matt Mills was exceptional too.
