I do hope this catches on and Southwark, Landor, Union and other wonderful fringe houses get to transfer up to Manchester...
Xanadu, Dogfight, Clockmakers Daughter, Carrie etc all deserve to be seen again up by audiences up north! |

Is it the same production that played Southwark Playhouse 4/5 years ago? I say that as I became aware this was happening because of an advert in the Toxic Avengers programme, which played the Southwark Playhouse, so assumed there was coalition between the two here?
Glad the people who seen it already has enjoyed the show already and hope the people seeing it also enjoy it, including a host Burly Bear tomorrow night.
I would urge board members to see this, it is worth travelling to, Manchester in some ways is more accessible than London and can be easily reached from places such as Liverpool, Leeds or Sheffield etc. It is worth the trek.

It's not the same as the Southwark production, no. Though by all accounts it seems to be just as good! My reckoning as to why you saw an advert in the Toxic Avenger programme is not because of the venue, but because both Toxic Avenger and Parade are produced by Aria Entertainment.  |

What a brilliant night I've just had at Parade. Absolutley gripping, brilliantly sung and acted, fabulous design, sound and lighting. I LOVED it.
Stand out performances were Laura Harrison as Lucille Frank, Andrew Gallo as Dorsey (woof!) and Matt Mills who played Newt Lee and Riley... what a voice. I wasn't sure about Tom Lloyd as Leo Frank at the start but he completely won me over in Act 2. Devastating! The nine piece orchestra sounded fabulous too. Full standing ovation.
This new theatre is very Southwark with its flexible space, with a nod to the Union with the bare brick walls and architectural features on display. The cafe bar is a cut above both of them though with shabby chic sofas and chilled out atmosphere. Very excited about the future of this place.

Glad you enjoyed the show, thought you would, it's certainly not a feel good musical, it is a feel everything musical. However this is sadly based on a very true story, that left an indelible stain in American history.
Did you listen to the cast recording, before you went?
Now you enjoyed so much.......you have to push the boat out and now see Urinetown.

I sometimes think we try a bit too hard to guarantee we're going to like a show by doing that before seeing something new. In reality the music should stand up on its own, and be accessible on our first experience of it live, seeing as that's how the majority of the audience will hear it. In this case it did. Yes im probably going to get over my fear of am dram and see the production of Urinetown in July |

I agree with you and I like to go into a show cold, might read a couple of reviews, if seeing an old play I do some research.
Glad you are going to take the plunge with Urinetown, don't know if you saw it in London? I did twice, firstly at the St James, where it knocked it out of the park and was definitely a 5 star show, then I saw it again on its transfer to the Apollo and I couldn't of seen a more different show, with about 80 people in the audience, in a theatre that holds 750, the cast did a good job, but they didn't really want to be there and you could see the pain on their face, there was no pathos with the audience, the show had all the life sucked out of it and the production was 1 star at best
You may be surprised and love Urinetown, but if you don't as I say you have to see the bad stuff to appreciate the good stuff.

I think it was just after ten, but I think the show started about ten minutes late. A friend just rang and asked me what the show was like last night and I actually choked up a bit recounting the ending.  Blimey. |

We waited until the bell before we went into the auditorium and hardly anyone was sat down. Everyone was enjoying the bar. Point to note, when you're in the bar you'll see a doorway with "theatre" written above. For this production that's not the entrance to the theatre. The entrance is back at he main doors. The seating is on 3 sides. I'd recommend sitting on the short side in front of the band (to your left as you enter) or even better on the long side (on your right as you enter). Both of these will be brilliant views. The short side on the far end is where people have to spin around for three or four scenes. Go for the long side for the best experience. |

I've booked for next Friday now, can't wait. I adore this show and can't wait to see this production. I was hoping to train back to Nottingham but I don't think I'd make it, so will need to drive!
Thanks for the seating tips, I'll head for the long row.
I don't think I've ever been as emotionally gut wrenched by a show as when I first saw this show. The music couldn't be more perfect for each moment throughout.

Saw this on Sunday. WOW. Goosebumps from the first song. Brilliant performances throughout. If you can get to Manchester don't miss it. Great venue and bar area. Looking forward to the next musical there from James Baker which I believe is Hair!
Never seen it. Is it a strange choice?
Anyway,won't put me off

Saw this afternoon. Blown away! When the cast all came together in song it was spine tingling. I'm going to listen to the soundtrack a bit now and then might just have to book again for next week!

I wish I could get up there again before it closes. It's such an extraordinary show anyway but this production is equally extraordinary and jam packed full of emotion. I had teared up many times and it's a show that always has a huge impact on me, leaving me gutted, especially in All The Wasted Time... A gorgeous song that paves the way for the devastation.
Amazing cast and production and I really wish I could get back up next week!
