Cast seems to scream offers/day seats In what way, please, zahidf? I really rate some of the cast (eg Alexis Zegerman, Adrian Scarborough and Dorothea Myer-Bennett - the last-named seems to pop up everywhere); it's the author himself of whom I am wary. Oh it's not a slight on the quality of the cast, but it's not really a 'name' actor in amongst that, the topic itself isn't massively feel good for the causal tourist and the playwright is possibly past his best. I don't really see a west end selling point for it unless it has amazing reviews of the bat |

That may well be an ironic embellishment of the truth, but he does seem to have written it for her. Does your 'Or rather, I don't' mean you think the RSC and NT were probably right to turn down the work of a playwright long past his best (given the disappointment of The Hard Problem) or that they turned him down because the literary departments are not competent to judge quality any more given that they may well have other considerations when they pick plays? Of course, both could be true. |

Why assume they were offered it? They weren’t. Fair enough, i can't imagine the RSC would be in the frame anyway. The NT on the other hand. But Stoppard has written for the WE before so its not a huge issue. I would think some "names" will be added to the cast in due course. |

Quite a few empty seats, which I've not seen at their productions before. I miss the days when one could rely on them being on with a double-bill every spring in Bristol; the new Tobacco Factory management made a mistake by ending that system. |

Seriously I cannot see this doing well at all. Difficult subject matter with a cast of mostly unknowns (yes very well known in theatreland but I guarantee Joe Public might know Adrian Scarborough from Gavin and Stacey, that is it) so I'm guessing the chances of day seats will be pretty high for this one!

Sonia Friedman was on Graham Norton's radio show on Saturday (4th Jan) and she said that Tom Stoppard wrote the play for her, giving her first refusal, which of course she accepted, and she didn't know the first thing about the subject of the play until shortly before it was given to her completed. It didn't sound like she requested it and it definitely didn't sound like there was any kind of bidding war.

A friend of mine contacted BO today re:Day seats, here’s the reply quoted:
About day seats, producers confirmed that we will have some for all each performance but at the moment we still do not know how many per person and how much they will cost.
However, we have been informed that they will be only on the Grand Circle level.

Been keeping an eye on this Saturday's performance, however it has now disappeared from the calendar completely not even showing as sold out. Has first preview been cancelled?

I walked past the theatre yesterday. Seems there is a huge cast of children as well as a biggish cast of adults.

When Sonia Friedman was on with Graham Norton a couple of Saturday's ago, she said it's a cast of 41, including 15 children. Even if it's three teams of 5, that's still (by my maths) a cast of 31 for each performance, which is actually more than the Wyndham's has dressing rooms for! |
