An excellent companion piece to Small Islands.
It is the early 80’s a mother has done everything she can to provide a succesful foundation for her sons, the sons knowing nothing of their past are lost, no links to their West Indian roots, a mythic father, and ‘unloved' in their adopted Country.
A dark tale, slow burning resentment builds to anger and division as the family tears itself apart.

I've seen lots of very favourable reviews of this (mainly 4-star) and had had my eye on it, but I'm still deterred by the length (3 hours plus?) and the only review I've so far seen by a woman said she found the relentless misogyny painful and distracting. I realise that may have been authentic at the time but am not sure whether I would enjoy this, so will wait for more comments here.

It was 2 hrs 55 at the matinee yesterday (though website still saying 2 hrs 45).
Certain parts did feel quite dated but thought this was an excellent production, very sparsely populated matinee, hope things pick up.

The relationship between Errol / Shelley is/was troublesome, couldn't understand why she put up with Errol’s behaviour and not sure it really added anything, appeared to be a plot device to support the ending.
Was also at yesterday’s matinee and agree attendance was particularly poor, we could have all fitted quite comfortably into the Studio space, hope it picks up following the favourable reviews.

Am I the only one who thought this was going to be a stage show of the band from the much underrated 1998 film Still Crazy?
