Yes she has a public twitter, but she can use that how she likes. She was pointing out that it wasn’t her fault when she was being made to feel like it was and I can understand her objecting to that! So can I. It's like shouting at shop assistants because something's out of stock. Someone doesn't become responsible for your anger just because they're the only person within reach. It all started friendly enough - though with shared sense of the circumstances. What changed was the frustrated customer then claimed that Carrie could only see the original tweet because someone else had joined the conversation and began @ing Carrie only from that point. Carrie pointed out this wasn't true. Maybe the original tweeter didn't realise that by replying to a tweet you automatically....um...speak to who you're replying to. A bit sad but the original tweeter did keep on justifying.

This perhaps suggests that the uncertainty over whether it would go ahead today was over whether the cover had had sufficient rehearsal time. Oh this is interesting! I'm not a huge fan of how OTT Charming is, but I do think Caleb pulls it off well. I wonder if another take on it will be less OTT, or if they're not allowed that much leeway.

A bit sad but the original tweeter did keep on justifying. And Carrie just kept on arguing 😂 just be the bigger person and let it go maybe? In these times I think anyone can see that it’s not the actors fault that it got cancelled. However I can understand the upset.. The woman (and lots of others who didn’t take to Twitter to vent) got told at 2.06 that the production wasn’t going ahead and had spent money on travel and accommodation not just refundable tickets. We can all say ah well that’s the chance you take in Covid times but how many of us can write off hundreds of ££ - her travel and accommodation won’t be refunded by the theatre. There was no coherent explanation which probably added to the frustration. Carrie saying they were all gutted was probably a trigger particularly as posters were saying ‘no one but Carrie would be more upset by the cancellation’ Facts: Carrie will still be paid. The paying public are out of pocket. Covid times yes but I think there could’ve been some empathy.

Whilst people occasionally say that theatre professionals read this board, and that they look at twitter to gauge opinion etc I would be very surprised if a group of artists who have been working on this for over 3 years will be changing their production based on this feedback. If it transpired that the story was not clear, or that songs & jokes weren’t landing as they’d hoped maybe then they would change things. They would be more likely to change the advertising to help folks understand what they are going to see rather than change the product. Of course I might be hoping for the opposite come 5.30 on weds, or may even be the first to see whatever changes have been made. Not true. Those in the industry read this. Agents, journalists and creatives - its FREE market research worth tens of thousands. …but creatives looking how to improve their multi-million pound creations?

Is press night still going ahead tonight and is the first cover going on? Today is NHS Appreciation Night. Looks like it's going on and the first cover for Prince Charming (a minor role) is on.

Lots of upset men / husbands, it would appear. They all need lessons in etiquette from Prince Charming...

I thought I'd seen somewhere (Carrie's Instagram perhaps?) that Monday was Press Night and Tuesday Gala Night.

Who really knows what tonight is? The schedule seems to change on a whim. But here was the original announcement about tonight's performance.

Rodney Vubya's tweet seems to suggest performances are off this week. That is a shame for everyone. I was looking forward to seeing the show again tonight. Freedom Day is over!

Hang on This seems to suggest that close contacts of the cast member (who has Covid) because they’ve tested negative on a PCR they seem to be able to continue after a couple of days? I’m not wishing further cancellations but until Aug 16th Under current law (whether you agree with it or not) close contacts need to isolate for 10 days regardless of a negative PCR as you can develop Covid later - that’s what the isolation period is for? So they should be isolating too? Up to now if it had been as simple as getting a negative PCR immediately after being in close contact with a Covid case then thousands upon thousands would’ve been able to do that? By my reckoning if the case was identified on Sat then any close contacts in the cast and crew shouldn’t return until Tuesday July 27th

They've not sent out any emails confirming the cancellation. Surely they should be notifying the audience ASAP

If they knew about the Covid case Sat then they should’ve cancelled then. The isolation period for close contacts doesn’t change and if they couldn’t cover it on Sunday then they wouldn’t be able to cover it today?

You're right, ALW's annoucement does sound permanent. A lot of the online comments are saying the same. But that would surely be absurd... I presume it was worded for Dramatic Effect, and it's come off a little wrong

It reads like toys being thrown out a prom. He would be foolish and disrespectful to audiences if it gets cancelled permanently. Which seems very very unlikely. Perhaps they ARE using the time to make all the necessary changes but blaming the government to get more press focus?

Seems like one of the cast definitely tested positive if his understudy was ready to go on, so I doubt they're making this all up.

I get the feeling ALW's playing politics with this. As others have said, the isolation rules are clear, so as soon as they had the positive test on Saturday morning, they knew that legally they had to shut down for 10 days as other productions have. Taking decisions day-by-day allows for maximum noise. Also causes maximum disruption to ticketholders who may wisely be waiting until the last minute to book travel etc. I may of course be a little miffed at having booked and paid for my parking for tonight just half an hour before I saw the news on Twitter... still no direct notification received though.
All that said, hugest sympathy for the cast and crew of this and every other production forced to close while hundreds can get up close and personal, dancing the night away with no masks, no vaccination proof, no COVID test requirement.
