But this Cinderella ISN'T a panto and i think calling it a panto is just a way to excuse its various shortcomings. Besides, alot of pantomimes are better than ALW's Cinderella. Let’s say fairy tale then if that suits better. I have seen better written pantos but the music is often worse - the nadir for me was when they use Baby Shark as the singalong song - ugh. But one of the big issues for me (which may be an entirely personal thing, I don't know) is that 'fairy tale' makes me think folklore, nature, magic, beauty - the exact opposite of the world of this show. I think I was immediately wrong-footed by this show because it was not what I expected from a fairy-tale retelling. I guess I was expecting something with an atmosphere a bit like A Midsummer Night's Dream - you know, wistful, slightly strange, a little bit dark, magical, very folk-y. I realise that's not what they were intending, but when Emerald Fennell, in an early interview, described the show as taking place in an ultra fairy-tale world, I really thought we'd be in for something really magical, not just coarse and silly.

Are you saying that you think it's memorable at best but that in all instances when it's memorable it's also derivative? Of course I don't mean that. It is perfectly clear what I mean. There is no need to be obtuse. It's not perfectly clear to me, otherwise I wouldn't have asked for clarification. You're saying that it's forgettable at worst and derivative at best. That would suggest that at its best it's not forgettable.

And that saddens me. I can normally find something to like in a ALW show. I didn't hate Stephen Ward (I want to take that piece and refocus it on Profumo so that we have proper dramatic contrast), I cried at The Beautiful Game. But there is nothing in Cinderella for me. Nothing. Yes, Stephen Ward isn't the complete write off people make it out to be, although it's disappointing for ALW. He chose his collaborators unwisely, too; Don Black is more a songwriter than a dramatist, completely out of his depth here. The lyrics are often prosaic and banal, the characterisation one-dimensional. I don't share your sentiment for The Beautiful Game, this left me feeling cold. I would rate TBG as ALW's second worst score after Starlight Express. "Don't Like You" has to be the worst song he's ever composed. Ben Elton's lyrics are atrocious. There is a beautiful melody in the musical, "The First Time" which Elton ruins with childish comedy and cliche. I have a lot of admiration for Ben Elton but not as a lyricist.

I've booked a second trip to this on 28/08 so will be interested to see what (if any changes) have been made since I saw the 2nd preview. I couldn't quite justify £105 to be moved in multiple ways but have got a seat in the first non-moving row which will become front row temporarily!

I’d just like to mention the excellent service that I got from Vicky at LW theatres regarding my ticket exchange following cancellation.
I was only in London from Belfast for the week so obviously couldn’t just pop back over on the replacement date offered. I am however passing through on Friday 27th but needed an extra seat for my partner.
No problem to Vicky I got two seats at the end of Row B, adjacent to my original booking, and they stood over my original £19.50 paid on a seat that was labelled at £85 ! - had to pay full price for my partner though 😝

You've got the best row in the theatre - far better than the moving seats as you are ringside for the ball.

I’m glad your opinion backs up my thoughts as it was still more than I’d normally pay at £65. I’m intrigued to see where the split is, will my water bottle suddenly depart!?!

Nope, as long as its not at the edge of your legroom... all will become obvious, but I think you've booked the best row in the theatre to get close to the action and appreciate the full ballroom scene at its best.

After being moved three times now, I finally have tickets to Fri 20th Aug. Bit annoyed as I'm sure I had better seats originally when I purchased preview tickets - When I got moved I received the amount I paid as a voucher but as I was moved to after previews I ended up with worse seats....BUT at least it's sorted. Anyone know what Row C - Seats 19 to 20 in the Dress Circle are like?
Really not sure what to expect with this one....

Well, if you find your new seats moving in mysterious ways, you've probably had too much to drink! That aside, I'd prefer to be in the central block if I was in the Dress Circle, but you should have a clear view particularly during the ballroom scene. But perhaps keep your eye on the ticket plan and the dynamic pricing. If more central seats become available at the same price on the day you need, you could ask the Box Office if they'll move you.

Thanks Dr Tom! I haven't read much into the show but I keep seeing references to "seats moving" - am I missing something?! Might just do that on the day, thanks

I keep seeing references to "seats moving" - am I missing something?! Certain rows of seats move with the revolve. I couldnt figure out how it was going to happen given the theatre layout, so I was very surprised and impressed when it happened.

Got the call from the box office to refund my money now. Am in no rush to re-book for this. There are shows in the West End that I’d like to see but can’t afford to right now. So I’m not really sure why I wanted to spend money on this joke of a show.

Rumbles on Facebook about tickets for shows in December being cancelled and credit vouchers issued, but same seats being immediately back on sale. What gives?

Maybe it's a fantastic visual. But when you're actually in the moving seats they feel very clunky as you can hear and feel the jolt of the turning mechanism every few seconds. Very distracting for what felt like minimal effect.

Have to offer an alternative opinion here. I snagged a £19.50 ticket in this section just before it closed and it felt seamless to me. I honestly loved it (especially for the price..!) and it wasn't distracting for me at all. Took a few seconds to even notice you're moving! Sort of made me feel like I was on a Disney ride, like Carousel of Progress :')

It really is a fantastic visual. It's not obvious how big that revolve actually is. I was looking at the seating in the auditorium and thinking there's nowhere for the seats to go, so when it did move i was impressed, but also really surprised at how small the stage actually is.

I agree, definitely a fantastic visual! I also couldn't work out exactly how it was gonna happen until it did. It also, for the first time since Cats departing, enabled me to understand exactly where in the theatre the Cats set/stage/revolve was. Every time I went into the New London (as was) post Cats, I could never work this out. Which used to frustrate me! (Basically what are now rows E-H would have been A-D moving platform and the Cats stage was thrust to end at what is now row D. It was also pretty much circular, whereas now front of stage is flattened off leading to more rows facing the most central part of the stage. Just incase anyone else shares my weird geeky interest!)

I thought it was relatively smooth. But what clunking there was I definitely felt part of the charm. Probs just me though as reminded me SO much of being back at Cats in 1981! Also made me think it's criminal that it's not been used since Cats. Such a versatile theatre and one day when Cinderella moves on, I do hope other shows will find use for it.

Looks to me like it is an agency booking cancelling rather than moving seats to the new date if it is the post I saw. Didn’t LWTheatres push all bookings back by a month, not sure all agencies can cope with that!

Rumbles on Facebook about tickets for shows in December being cancelled and credit vouchers issued, but same seats being immediately back on sale. What gives? I can add to the rumble. I had tickets (using gift vouchers) that ended up on 26th November. I received an email 'thanking' me for choosing to have evouchers - doesn't mention what I've chosen evouchers for but it's the only show I have tickets for. Considering I didn't cancel and certainly didn't ask for evouchers I'm slightly bemused. Edit: Just checked - And they are on sale again at the same price
