Is anyone else still waiting for an email about tickets for what would have been press night? Seeing people having their September tickets moved on twitter, and I haven't heard anything about last week! I know they have a lot of tickets to deal with, but what kind of weird order are they working through? :') I originally asked for my preview tix last year to be postponed to October this year as I didn't want to take a risk with COVID. Got an email saying that's now been shifted to November.

Bought the highlights CD as I wasn't impressed by some of the bonus tracks. CD is fine except for the insert. Not only no lyrics but not even a mention of which character sings the songs. Can anyone advise if the double CD version has a proper booklet with lyrics etc? Thanks

Not a booklet with lyrics unfortunately, only a slightly more elaborate insert, similar to the one with the highlights CD

So much negativity this morning. Did some of you sleep badly? Maybe we are negative about a show that is disappointing; is mostly on click track with recorded percussion, has a muddled story, is miscast and a TERRIBLE score from one of our favourite composers of our lives. That’s why we are negative. I also doubt this show of this low standard will get to Broadway. This show is SO going to Broadway and it'll do so with one or two awards to stick on the posters too.

When ALW was talking to Mike Ball last Sunday, he said that, pre-pandemic, they already had a theatre secured on Broadway for a November 2020 transfer. Whether that is true, goodness knows, but that's what he said.

Some certainly have better material to work with than others (there’s only so much you can do with a role when you have one song and ten minutes of stage time), but there’s no one not pulling their weight.

I saw the (currently) last show a week ago on Friday and was dismayed by the weird story, but was overall glad I saw it (there are some cool scenes in there) - in previews! That feels really special, as I've never seen a production so early before!

Whether that is true, goodness knows, but that's what he said. His original intention was that Cinderella was going to open first on Broadway (I think in 2019 if not Spring 2020) especially since School of Rock seemed to have gone so well here for him first (giving him his first "commercial hit" in years). At the time there was a back log of theatre spaces... so much so that there was some unfortunateness with Beetlejuice which seemed to have found an audience but was being forced out by the theatre owners or something. In any event I just remember Broadway was so backlogged that I remember him saying he decided to move it to London for the premiere and wanted to go to Broadway as soon as possible. Sadly he'll probably have plenty of open and available spaces this fall here in NYC

I don’t personally think there’s anything in the set design that warrants an award. Or the lighting to be honest. They’re nicely done, but really nothing special. I agree with you that some individual performances may win awards, but can’t see much else lighting up the Olivier ceremony. Though ALW’s name alone will probably guarantee some nominations.

Prince Charming being anyone who isn't Adam Lambert?

VHB deserves to win for her brilliant performance, but there's nothing else in this that's remotely worthy (in my view anyway). It can't win design stuff for me when everything is pushed on and off by the VISIBLE stage crew and cast.
God help Broadway...

I don't think ALW should risk Broadway for at least another year as Cinderella is a different kettle of fish compared to School of Rock.

The trouble with the sets and lighting is, like most shows now, it’s been designed with touring in mind.
The days of grand spectacle sets on the west end stages are almost gone, it’s now down to the least number of vans it can fit in.

I started doubting what I'd heard, so after tossing and turning all night, worrying I'd misled the board, I've just re-listened on BBC Sounds.
"It was supposed to have opened not this last April, but the April before that. There was a theatre slated for it on Broadway for November last year."
(1 hour 33 minutes in.)
ALW can afford better lawyers than me, even when he's on his uppers, so I'll leave it at that. 😉

Quentin Letts reviews Cinderella and gives it 5 stars. Not sure how CHF will feel being referred to as a Tracy Turnblad/Caitlin Moran type though. Fabulous wigs and witty lyrics ? The man’s on crack😂 I’m with him on his idea for a glass slipper and Oliver Dowden though

Wonder if old Quentin and Andy are buds outside of school?

The Broadway community does not and will not accept such low standards of pushing and pulling on basic sets/flats, naff music (click tracked percussion and synth) and weird/muddled storyline. I’m shocked many of you have such low standards here! This show will win about 3 or 4 new Oliviers. Depends what the competition is. Be More Chill and Prince of Egypt are MUCH better shows.

I can’t make out the words in the advert. Does she really say ‘f*cking bad Cinderella’ in the middle? That’s what it sounds like.
