I was deeply hacked off to win the lottery for the first time in a year today, just when I have a really busy fornight of theatregoing already arranged so I can't fit another show in. I do want to see the new cast but now I bet I won't win again for ages.

Fortunately for me I was half planning a London theatre trip this weekend anyway. Only the upper circle in the offer on the dates I looked at. However I managed to get an aisle seat which will hopefully provide some relief to my knees.

My understanding - I am not a fan or following very closely, so this may be incorrect! - is that starting soon, the Tuesday and Saturday shows (as well as Monday, which already is) will be accessible solely via ballot. Coupled with the above development, and in the absence of a Sunday show, does that mean there will soon be no way at all to purchase a non-balloted ticket for under £89.50? Because that seems ... completely mad.

Edit: nevermind, this does seem to be at least a partial misunderstanding! I still think this pricing strategy is an outrage, and it's long since killed any desire I might have had to see the show.

Am I the only one who watched this show once and was fairly satisfied with my viewing the one time? I can't imagine watching this more than once, even if I loved it and gave it a well-deserved 5*.

Yeah, this move seems really stupid. I wouldn't be surprised if it has killed off interest for many.

I would never wish for a show to fail and close though, that's just mean-spirited.

I love the show, I've seen it grow from virtually the beginning and have been rooting for them all the way through.

But the producers make it impossible to root for them with the insane way they insist on running it.

Avalon saw that people are willing to pay it on Fridays and Saturdays so upped midweek prices as a result.

I wouldn't want the show to close, it's clearly Avalon wanting to increase revenue than the creatives.

Am I correct in saying that as of mid November, the only way to buy a ticket on a Monday, both shows Tuesday and both shows Saturday for any seat other than last row of the Upper is to play the ballot?

'I hope it closes' is probably too strong in hindsight.
It's not SpitLip's fault.

But I hope this does hamper ticket sales, although I won't hold my breath that it'll cause Avalon to change their dreadful ways.

Avalon's strategy is madness. The £89.50 seats for awful views, the ballot for most shows etc. To hell with them. I have no interest in this now.

The thought of paying £89.50 for the seat I had in the circle, that provided me with a straight on view of one of the box doors, is absolutely criminal.

This is genuinely inexcusable. It's like they're determined to make themselves impossible to support or defend. I feel so bad for the cast and creatives, but the producers are unconscionable.

The pricing and seating is the only negative of this otherwise wonderful show. I sat on the back row of the dress circle when I went to see it. I'm 5ft nothing and so when a tall person ended up in front of me, my view of the central part of the stage was pretty much blocked. So instead of constantly lurching left and right to see around the huge head, I ended up just standing up and perching on the edge of my seat. They did have booster seats but told me they had run out. A guy sat near to me who was 6ft+ had to do the same thing as there was no room for his legs. We didn't think it would be a problem as there was no row behind us, but we did have theatre staff telling us to sit down, something that the tall guy near me physically couldn't do.

Any chance Mincemeat might go on tour soon? I'd love to see it again but would much prefer to see it somewhere other than the fortune and with a fairer pricing scheme where you have the option for lesser seats to be cheaper seats.

One for someone with some inside knowledge? Looking at the latest schedule, there seem to be no shows over Xmas (well, Dec 24th to Jan 1st inclusive). Does anyone know if that’s set in stone, or maybe they just haven’t agreed/sorted Xmas dates yet? I was planning on booking for a couple of days after Christmas, though TBH the whole £89.50 seats business leaves a rather bad taste in my mouth too…

The pricing strategy is certainly a choice - and it nearly put me off seeing it entirely. If it wasn't for the lottery I don't think I'd be seeing it any time soon - £90 for every seat in the house is ridiculous. I thought Les Mis's current ticket pricing was terrible with the restricted view slip seats being around £70, but paying more than that for even worse seats at the Fortune is a joke.

I hope this fails spectacularly - having every seat as expensive as that for 4 nights a week seems like a poor choice.

The ballot certainly seems to build interest. Just had a message from a friend that her friend had won so they are seeing the show. On a random Monday in January. I adore the show but adored it 99% as much off west end and priced accordingly.
