Natasha Hodgson gives the most forced and unfunny performance I’ve ever seen on a stage. Is this the forum equivalent of clickbait? Or a genuinely held belief? If the latter, I am honestly baffled. I have never disagreed with a statement on here more.

Even as someone who agrees with the rest of mrbarnaby's points about the show, I definitely disagree with that one - the acting wasn't the problem at all.

Just don’t get the hype about this show. I was bored rigid and found it woefully unfunny. It’s like a musical for people who like The Play that Goes wrong etc. Absolutely witless. Natasha Hodgson gives the most forced and unfunny performance I’ve ever seen on a stage. David Cumming lovely to watch though- can see him being a brilliant Miss Trunchbull Also the Fortune is the most uncomfortable theatre I’ve ever been in. Absolutely not fit for purpose. Agree with all of your points about the show apart from Natasha, who I thought did the best with the material she had.

But it has clearly hit some kind of cultural niche like Six did as people love it. But yeah. Enjoyed it once. No desire to go again. Nothing I could hum (that ever repeating problem 😱).

I have never disagreed with a statement on here more. It’s my genuine opinion. I thought that performance was dreadful. It takes more than putting on a deep voice to make me laugh. Others disagree… that’s fine! Also can’t remember a single song from it. FIGHT ME! 😘

Opinions eh!

Insufferable sophomoric nonsense. Tedious 2-1/2 hours. 90 minutes without an interval would have been too long. Thin story drawn out. Poor material, pointless gender blind casting was not amusing.
And what was the fire drill at the end, which forced the audience to exit the house in a rush? Is that part of the show? What a rude way to end a show.
If it isn’t obvious, I hated it.

And “All The Ladies” did get a bit Six-esque but forgive it. I like “Useful” as well. I find it a great soundtrack to have on whilst cooking or something, to sing and bop along to. World would be a dull place if we all liked the same things! 😎

The fire alarm… On entering, we were handed a slip of paper that advised of a fire alarm test at the conclusion of the performance. I thought it was a gag.
But when the show ended, lights flashed and sirens sounded all of which I suspected was to provide some authentic 1940’s air raid feeling to the show on stage.
There was no evidence of fire or police authorities on the street. If they wanted to clear the house in a hurry, if that was the intention, they succeeded.
By the by, it’s a grungy dirty little venue, overdue for renovation. They say the entire theatre can fit on the stage of the glittering Drury Lane across the street.
I was last there for that awful ghost thing that played for decades.

Seems odd to do it at the end of a show though. Never heard of that before.

Fire alarm practise at the end of a show is a fairly standard thing, isn't it? I've been part of them on both sides - audience and FOH. Allows the building to see how quickly they can actually empty the auditorium, and allows the FOH team to practise with actual people. Obviously not part of the show at all. Just a drill.
And the gender blind casting isn't supposed to be funny. That's the point of it.

Seems odd to do it at the end of a show though. Never heard of that before. For ATG it is always at the end of a show, the show will end and the duty manager will come on stage and say their scripted part and then the ushers will get everyone out of the fire exits and then check it’s all clear. Once that’s all done, they’ll let audience members who have stuff in the cloakroom back in to collect their items (worth nothing many of the ones I were part of had an evacuation time of 3-5 minutes, so they aren’t actually delaying patrons too much there)

Yeah, we did one on the show I'm working on last week. Audience prewarned etc. That was an ATG house as well, so maybe they are all reassessing and implementing new policies?

yeah - I saw Hamilton earlier this year and they did a Fire Drill at the end. Sounds like the exact same procedure, albeit half of the audience had ignored the piece of paper asking you to stay in place, and so the auditorium was already half-way empty by the time the siren sounded.

Looks like the link still works - you can buy up to 6 tickets, guess it doesn't need to be in 1 transaction. If anyone else wants the link, first to post here...
