You could easily social distance in the Dominion, but all that fringing didnt come cheap and obviously needs a full house to pay for it I’m sure if there was a way for the show to reopen they would...clearly the intention was to get back ASAP and if they no longer can then there must be a good reason. With such a large production I imagine it’s more to do with the logistics of keeping cast/backstage safe rather than the audience. |

I'm confused why social distanced when the plan up to now is to allow full capacity from June? The wording on their website is rather fluffy. Socially distanced seating until it isn’t, unless it needs to be for longer, but if it doesn’t it will be normal soon. Basically they are putting half the seats on sale and will fill the gaps when they can, which could be right away. Problematic for people booking on the understanding it will be distanced who then may have people right next to them! That’s how I read it anyway. |

Its easier to add capacity instead of having to cancel people which happened to some shows in December. In an interview yesterday with Sonia Freidman she says that the government will only be giving a weeks notice to confirm full capacity. |

People who will only go if it is socially distanced shouldn't be booking, that is just an unrealistic expectation. Theatre is a business, and one which has been completely decimated over the last 12 months, so no-one should be in the least bit surprised that they will sell as many seats as possible as soon as they are allowed to, as that is the only way to make money. |

TPOE have clearly decided that performances with social distancing will almost certainly be allowed by summer so for now that’s the safest announcement to make. Yes, they need to sell as many tickets as possible but I would argue that more importantly than that, producers need certainty right now...and the June 21st end-of-restrictions date isn’t safe enough to work with...yet. |

Although it has not yet announced its full reopening programme, the Stephen Joseph Theatre has stated that it will be continuing with all its Covid security measures for "quite some time."
This is the subsidised sector, rather than the commercial West End, but I think there is a belief amongst theatre administrators, perhaps backed up by surveys, that this is what the GBP want. It's not how I want to live my life, but after all the messaging over the last 12 months, it's hardly surprising.

It does make sense though. The show can go ahead with socially distanced audiences if restrictions remain in place and with capacity audiences as soon as they're able to. Not that I can really see this show packing out the Dominion whether audiences are socially distanced or not! |

I agree, but I thought the same might happen with last year’s JCS at Regent’s Park. Of course in the end we were nowhere near getting rid of socially distanced seating but it looked like it had been done so they could add rows back in. |

Saw the matinee today (their third performance back) and really enjoyed it. Great atmosphere.
Checked back on my comments from when I saw a preview back last February where I said
“I’d say it’s somewhere between 3 and 4 stars for me with much potential to improve”.
Well improved it has, and despite them only just being back it felt very polished. I’d put it as a solid 4 star plus show now, but again stand by my comment that it has a fair few too many reprises.
One major cast change was Clive Rowe taking over from Gary Wilmot and of course he was excellent.
Row M seats 7/8 in stalls through rush for £25 so great seats available for this (for now, only can be bought in pairs)

I saw this last night from the very back of the circle and was worried it would be lost in the barn of the dominion but it really wasn’t. As seems to be my tradition I’ve not seen the film
This is based upon and it’s a long time since I’ve read any of the source material but I managed to follow it. I missed Gary Wilmot as he is out for Anything Goes (which this show replaced in my diary) so that give me a good reason to go back. Clive Rowe was awesome in the role. The whole cast was and I hope the keenness of producers to reopen earlier than some shows gets them the attention needed to get this show back on its feet.

I saw the show in Feb 2020 and was one of the last shows I saw before everything closed.
The show got a lot of stick on here especially around the set but I really enjoyed it and it's quite a spectacular piece of theatre.
I plan to go back again soon for a second visit and to see what changes have been made.
