The set (and show) is horrible. The fringing that hangs everywhere is however quite effectively used for the parting of the Red Sea.

ceebee loves everything as usual and mrbarnaby hates everything as usual. Anything new? I will admit, I try to err on the side of optimism and positivity. I genuinely loved this show when it opened - I don't go the theatre particularly to find fault and I don't think it's a healthy mindset to look for it. Each to their own. I saw plenty of really tedious and dull RSC productions as a kid (and many brilliant ones too) so these days I'm happy to be entertained and to simply suspend disbelief. I do enjoy reading the comments of everybody though, MrBarnaby particularly regularly raises some really good thought-provoking posts. I'm probably pretty lightweight in my views compared to others who have a more critical eye, and I think/hope there's room for both.

I saw the last performance of this before lockdown, with three of the four leads missing (although the covers were excellent). Saw this again tonight from near the front, with everyone back (and a few new cast members). Very glad I did too, as somehow with this being my last show before lockdown, now it just feels like closing a chapter and theatre being back!
It is a long show, but there is a real sense of electricity there with the big moments. I do think they've improved the staging and there's more going on than I remember.
A shout out to Jack the usher, who was asking people as the went in to give him good reviews. He scanned my ticket perfectly and directed me to my seat, what more can you ask?
I had a TV presenter sat next to me (well, socially distanced next), but it's one of those annoying moments where he looked familiar but I can't think who he was. The masks don't help, of course (unless you're not wanting to be recognised).
An enjoyable evening anyway. The theatre seemed pretty full (long queues to get in) and everyone was on their feet very quickly for the ovation at the end.

I saw this tonight.
After seeing the dreadful Deathdrop and very dissapointing Cinderella tonight was FINALLY a show that delivers; goosebumps galore, sensational singing, the best dancing in a show I’ve seen in years, glorious staging and a powerful religious and political story told in the most creative way. It is NOT easy to stage an adaptation of the Book of Exodus following the life of Moses… and with the current Palestine/Israel situation the message of Hebrew slaves being set free (and the trouble both violent religions create) is stronger now in 2021 than the Dreamworks 1998 cartoon could have ever imagined.
The show I hear has been reworked again since it was briefly in the West End for a few weeks last year and WOW, it produced the epic Broadway experience we’ve all missed so much and we left in tears.
It’s not perfect, it’s too long, acting from two cast members not spot on, there are parts of the story I thought could be clearer and two new songs that I question… but damn, I want to see it again tomorrow!
Though not the gigantic hydraulic multi million pound stage sets we saw in the 80’s/90’s this was creative and clever and they even parted the Red Sea on stage!
9/10 from me. My group of friends all LOVED it.

Or there's a forced, get up and dance, that the PR spins into standing ovations.
Did you give Prince of Egypt a standing o, but remained seated for BoM??
I thought parts of it were great, but people rolling along the floor wafting blue sheets to represent the river, or writhing together in a red light, to represent the burning bush was nothing more than bad am dram, and yet the fringing, of which there is plenty, was really cleverly used with the projections. It didn't all gel together for me.
I'm going back in a few weeks, so will be interesting to see it again, but i bet the bad bits i mentioned are still in it!

I actually thought the suspension of disbelief needed from the contemporary dance chorus was actually rather creative, daring and excellent from the chorus rather than am dram. The standard of choreography and the dancers in this production are ridiculous. You can’t get any better (or hotter!) I thought the sea, sand and blood river images were actually rather beautiful. No difference than the chorus in Lion King. It’s all creative and about imagination!

Does everything need to be literal? Surely there doesn't need to be actual set to show everything in theatre and one of the points of it is that it can use creativity, dance, costume or props ect to portray things or hint at a sense of setting/scenario? I thought how they portrayed things like the water and the blood ect were very nicely done.

Yes I certainly did stand for PoE. For BoM I applauded lightly, out of respect for the cast and crew but that was all. I didn’t stand up, other than to scarper out of the side door ASAP!

These reviews almost put me off seeing this, I only went because I am desperate for theatre and rush tickets stall row K were good value.
I actually really enjoyed how the dancing represented the sand, the river. The fire was great from where I sat.
The songs are not memorable but the underlying tune was pleasant and all the female singers are so strong! Their voices worked beautifully together. The male voices are strong too but for some reason I didn't take to Moses's (Luke).
What I didn't like was the rushed plague sequence. I know the story but I could not define the seperate plague events between the blood river and death of firstborns.
I also missed some stage furniture, got bored with the samey block of rocks.
Overall pleasantly surprised. I think the strong singers and dancers carried it.

I got an automated message from NHS Track and Trace yesterday warning me that I may have been in contact with a Covid-19 case. No requirement to self-isolate thankfully, but I did take a lateral flow test which was negative (I'm also double vaccinated). They don't indicate where you came into contact, but in my case I've only been checking in at theatres, so I guess it must have been my visit to the Prince of Egypt last week. I will take another test in day or two to be on the safe side. I've no symptoms and catching Covid-19 is very unlikely but I don't want to put anyone else at risk.

Actually, now I think about it, the Prince of Egypt was the one show where I had to fill an online form rather than scan the QR Code. So it can't be that one. Must be either Heathers or Constellations.. (sorry, off topic) A shame for everyone involved with the show, but I think we're going to be seeing a lot more of these short-term closures.

Just got the notification via TodayTix that they will be providing vouchers for the cancelled dates. Swift and commendable response, but what a shame this has now happened to two high profile shows in the space of two weeks.
(Especially given the disgusting scenes of dundreds of drunk England supporters throwing Covid safety to the dogs just down the road in Leicester Square yesterday!)
