Liking the marketing and the website www.sweeneytoddnyc.com/ (even if my OCD is really not liking the thing between the E and Y on the SWEENEY marquee). Will be interesting to see how this version will go down, I wonder if Mackintosh is involved again?

I too would love to see this show revived - I'm still kicking myself for never getting to see the Ball/Staunton production, I love the cast recording.
Jenna Russell would be an amazing Lovett!

The Ball/Staunton Chichester production was quite good. I saw it post transfer. The WNO semi-staged show was fine too. The actor musician tour (I saw Jason Donovan!) was really sub-par. The best production I've personally seen was the David Bedella Twickenham Theatre effort which was intense and very, very fun. Despite having to watch a saggy, sweaty, 70-odd year old Mark McKerracher flagellate himself from within dripping distance.
Extra mention to the Pie Shop production which was also excellent. Oh and there was the laughably bad production at the Bolton Octagon two or three years back. And amateur productions every few weeks. And concerts, DVDs, a motion picture (ugh)
Sweeney Todd really is one show which should be completely left alone for a good 5-10 years.

[ Agreed, and David Bedella's acting through his facial expressions (especially those eyes of his) in such small space made him quite terrifying a great example of how to do intimate musicals right. Which is why I felt that the Twickenham production overshadowed the Tooting one Don't get me wrong i liked the show, but it really felt held back by its own concept. Performing on a small square space looks better than having the cast manoeuvre around a counter and staircase

She's done Kiss Me Kate (Chichester/Old Vic) and appeared in a couple of concerts at the Royal Festival Hall since then. She's done a bit of TV too, recently. And who can forget her non-oscar nominated appearance as factory worker 2 in the Les Miserables film.

I enjoyed her in In The Club and I loved her in Benidorm a few years ago. They should totally bring her back in that - she was hilarious but was only in it for one season!

someone mentioned the film of Sweeney Todd...truly one of the worst stage to movie adaptations. I wonder how many millions of people whose only experience of Sweeney and Sondheim that was will never darken a theatre door again. Oh the damage done.

I don't think we'll be seeing a revival any time soon. After last year we had the pie shop version and the London Coliseum version with Bryn Terfel and Emma Thompson (which was absolutely mesmerising btw, my fourth favourite show of all time) it may be a few years before another Sweeney. I'd love to see a huge musical revival though like the 2012 version. Unlike the semi stage productions last year. But I agree it will be a few more years, who know who could produce it?! Derby Theatre are performing Sweeney 30 Sep to 22 Oct with Sophie Louise-Dann (most recently seen by me at least in Bend It and Dagenham) as Lovett. It's a nice theatre and tickets are cheap (the cheap seats all have a clear view) so may be worth the trip. Sets are usually fairly good here and it's a co-production with the Mercury in Colchester so there'll be at least a bit of dosh behind it. I've been to a fair few home made productions in Derby and have always been impressed with the quality (less so with how easy it is to find the theatre from the train station...) so may make the journey.

The WYP production at the Royal Exchange was scary. Lunatic asylum patients wandering around muttering stuff under their breath and staring out audience members. And Sweeney slashing people literally inches away. Fair gave me the willies it did! It was huge fun too though, Pirelli ran his mobile barber shop from a Reliant Robin

There are many Sweeney Todd threads floating about, so wasn't sure which particular one to reanimate, this seemed the most general... New DNA evidence has proven the identity of London's infamous Jack the Ripper to be a Polish Barber. Given that Jack The Ripper had a taste for his victims kidneys, I'd like to believe he would take them for Steak and Kidney pies and could well have been our very own, original, Sweeney Todd! www.indy100.com/article/jack-ripper-revealed-identity-polish-barber-aaron-kosminski-8828286

Looking forward to the production of this show at the inspirational (my second home in my Uni years) Liverpool Everyman with Liam Tobin in the lead.Hope it’s a real Artaudian attack on the senses with audience inter-action in a very immersive way. It’s running during April/May and as one of my all time faves on stage,I can’t wait. BTW I thought that the casting in the film version was perfect and the whole thing was bonkers brilliant.

I’ve booked for the Liverpool Everyman production in April. Really looking forward to it as the productions that the theatre has put on have been top class entertainment. I’m very hopeful this will be another great night at the theatre.

Ooh might do this. Never been to the Everyman... I just looked and notice they’re using the same booking system as the Royal Exchange so god knows where to sit 😩

I’ve sat there before without any problems. As this is being done in the round, hopefully there shouldn’t by any issues (fingers crossed!).

If it helps, there's a better seating plan here for productions 'in the round' at the Playhouse: www.everymanplayhouse.com/sites/default/files/New%20Sweeney%20Todd%20Seating%20Layout.pdfRow D on what I presume would normally be the stage seems to be £10 for all performances. I'm wondering what the catch is.... Also quite intrigued and excited by this but the website only credits 3 musicians currently. So a recorder, a triangle and Maplins Casio - concerns me slightly...

Didn't the recent critically acclaimed Tooting Pie Shop production that went onto New York just have just 3?
I would ideally like at least 10 players but "times is hard"
