Rory, to clarify further, near the beginning of the play, there was a reference to a sister who killed herself by jumping into the mill-stream. Her body got tangled in the mill-wheel, causing the water to back up and flood the house.
In the final scene, the lovers feel there is no way out and they disappear. As water begins to fill the house on stage, we know their fate without being told. Watching that water slowly gush to the front and deducing the meaning is chilling and very effective. God it sounds really fabulous. Thanks @theatremonkey. Am completely gutted I missed it now. I was over with work colleagues and did my best to steer them towards this on the evening we had in town but they plumped for something else. C'est la vie! |

With Giles Terrera standing in amongst the water pouring around his feet, looking out and realising... it was a complete stroke of brilliance from the creative team.

We were in the front row, and could only hear the water coming in and see his face due to the height of the stage. We all rose to see the water on the floor. |

The nominations are all a bit out of whack. Giving Rae Smith 50% of the available nominations for design rather than combining her nominations into one for both shows just shut out another designer, surely?

Yes I'm sure in the past directors have been nominated for two productions combined into a single nomination. That is the sensible way as it is the person being nominated, not the specific production. Not sure whether they've ever nominated an actor twice, or in a combined nomination for two productions ? |

Also, her designs for both plays are VERY similar, so it seems especially odd. Almost like giving separate acting nominations to Kyle Soller for parts 1 and 2 of The Inheritance. It's also baffling that her incredible design for Night of the Iguana was overlooked.
