Thought he was Teenage Idol, he's Vince Fontaine. He was both when I saw it in July 21

He said that he was just Vince Fontaine on GMB this morning. He was being a bit shady though, as if other slebs would be doing the other dates. The mind boggles. Alan Titchmarsh? Bruno Brookes? One of Five? The options are limitless. Darren Bennet appears to be his cover anyway.

I've just been looking at the dates Peter Andre will not be performing. It might have been quicker to post the ones he will be doing!

What is Peter so busy with that he can’t do a full week?

I think the main issue for the Dominion is it’s size. Both it and the Palladium are having similar difficulties in finding long running productions to move in and stay for the foreseeable future, so instead are using a model of limited runs of old favourites.
I guess only the Apollo Victoria is a comparable size, with most other venues hovering slightly below or slightly over the 1,000 mark. Having 2,000+ seats to fill every night is a huge challenge. Factor in the pressure on cost of living for Brits, and for some a fear of sitting in a packed auditorium whilst Covid cases are still high, and add lower numbers of international tourists than usual, and it’s no wonder it’s difficult to fill somewhere as cavernous as the Dominion :-(

They could sell the Circle as socially distanced and only fill it to 50% capacity to attract nervous theatregoers. Then fill the stalls to whatever capacity they can sell. Best of both.

It’s a charmless barn of a venue. At least Drury Lane and the Palladium are beautiful and have history. And Tottenham Court Road is a dump

I've mentioned this before but it'd be worth Nederlander investing in movable walls that can reduce or increase the capacity of the Dominion depending on the production, it's been done at the Lyric Theatre in Sydney and the Ed Mirvish in Toronto and would solve their capacity issue somewhat.

Hearing reports that the Dominion is going to renamed the Graveyard Theatre.. where hopes and standards go to die The only time I've ever set foot in that place was a misguided decision to see a dreadful production of Grease there many years ago...I think it had Shane Ritchie in it. Nothing's ever been on at that place to tempt me back since.

I've never been there, I am tempted by Grease though.

If you can sit near the front, the production itself is really quite enjoyable. A bit darker, but only a tiny bit. A bit talkier, but only a tiny bit. Really appealing leads. Give it a go.

Now also with added Jason Donovan. We booked at the weekend when it was announced, although even I am 🙄 at his casting, especially as he is missing parts of the Joseph tour to do it!

Who is replacing Jason for the part of the tour he is in Grease? And was he advertised as doing the whole tour?

He was always only doing certain venues, don’t know if being in this means he’s pulling out of some he was meant to be doing as well though.

We did wonder at the time why he wasn’t doing the whole Joseph tour and from a quick glance he seems to be doing one show or the other throughout the year.

Saw this yesterday through rush. Fairly full. Got a mid stalls seat, on the aisle where it curves out, so excellent clear view (but further back than I’d have liked).
Believe it or not, this is the first time I’ve ever seen Grease on stage, so I can’t really compare it. This is a big production, a simple set that fills the stage, large ensemble and lots of enthusiasm.
I don’t think you’d get away with writing this now. A woman suddenly giving up all her principles to get the man. But the audience lapped this up. Biggest cheers by far for Peter Andre, who also leads the mega mix at the end.
The audience was as good or bad as you’d expect. Loud arguments or discussions during much of the second half from somewhere at the back of the stalls. Ushers running around to stop the filmers. People helping out with singing (and dancing to) the best known numbers. But could have been worse.
Sound quality mix was really not the best. Some lines were so muffled it was a case of guessing what was said.
Highlight was Jocasta Almgill, which I expect will surprise no one. Peter Andre was much better than expected, even if his accent slipped in and out. Nice to stop some recent graduates in the cast too, with the ArtsEd class of 2022 taking most of the places. Plus, there’s Zack Guest in the ensemble, who I think is destined for great things. Hopefully may get to see him covering some of the lead roles.
All in all, a good enough production. I don’t feel like I’ve missed anything not having seen this before, but I would go back. Might even risk a Jason Donovan show!

Good to hear - am seeing this tonight; last time I saw it was at the Cambridge Theatre and it was awful. Hoping for better things!

I’ve not seen this since the early 90’s production. We are booked later in the run when JD’s on.

Went to see grease on the 4th. First time seeing the stage production and only know the movie so did get slightly confused when things were in a different order and why the ‘T-birds’ were called the ‘burger palace boys’. The story still made sense and after reading afterwards that this production is a lot closer to the original stage production. Was a lot of fun and thought the cast diversity was some of the best I’ve ever seen so round of applause for that grease 👏🏻. Would definitely go see it again and leaving my movie order brain at the door this time 😅 some singing and clapping out of time from the person sat next to be during the opening number but they quickly clocked on that no one else was doing it and soon stopped. Some aggressive clapping at parts from the people behind me to the point of shaking the chairs but went in with the mindset that this would probably happen with such well known songs.

How depressing that this even needs to be said... I've just seen this show tonight and the diversity of the cast didn't even enter my mind. The sheer energy and talent on stage proves the casting team made some great choices. Lots of fun, high energy, and a rare show that fills the Dominion stage nicely and suits the venue. They'll do well to sell across 26 weeks but good luck to them - well worth seeing just for the fun/nostalgia.
