Georgia Louise (Sandy) has had to drop out for the remainder of the tour due to recently diagnosed health problems. Wishing her a speedy recovery x

That is a shame, but the role is in more than capable hands with Ms Kingdon. Definitely one to watch.

I caught this yesterday at the 100th performance. A very different and fresh take on Grease, going back to the original source and the casting was very energetic with great staging and choreography.
I would say if I had one issue it was the audience itself. I was sat next to a group of women in their 40s-50s who sang every song, ad-libbed and talked throughout to each other, checking their phones etc.
Behind me there was a woman who was obviously a self proclaimed "theatre buff" who had decided to commentate the entire show and throw out facts about the set, the orchestrations and actors. I love discussing this as much as the next person but not during the show.
As well as that there were a lot of children who were just too young to behave.
I hate being a grouch but it is definitely not a patch on my horrifying experience I had seeing Poppins. I'll probably opt for an evening performance if I'm seeing this type of show again.

Saw this recently. Great singing and dancing, but the acting left much to be desired. The actress playing Rizzo seemed to be miscast. She didn’t convey the essence of Rizzo at all. The person playing Frenchie stood out, and Peter Andre was surprisingly good!

Confirmed. Weird that it’s not opening until May when there are no more tour dates after December and Prince of Egypt is closing early January.

Yeah it's surprising it isn't starting sooner. I guess they want time to build an advance and also, Jan- March are typically very slow months in the West End.
Initial booking is to October. Monday-Saturday with Thursday/Sat matinees.

There seems to have been such a lot of backlash against this version of Grease amongst "casuals" - i.e. the type of theatre fans Grease most attracts - outraged that this is not the "proper" version of Grease. (i.e. the Dominion version unapologetically based upon the film)
They are not interested in authenticity and the original script!

Originally a Leicester Curve production. Choreographed by Arlene Philips. It's actually been doing the rounds in various forms since, I think, Christmas 2018. |

I am surprised this is hitting the West End. Foster has done good stuff in Leicester, but Grease is not his finest hour. Adults playing kids half their age, and acting in a style that would seem condescending even were it made for CBBC, was not for me when I saw it at The Curve on its first pass.
The film version somehow gets away with the way-too-old cast, and manages to handle adult and controversial themes (underage promiscuity, unwanted pregnancy, upskirting, drug-taking, social expectations, tribalism, social pressures to conform, misogyny, racial and class divisions) without sanitising them and without patronising. On the surface, the movie may be fun, light-hearted froth, but it's actually quite dark.
None of this was evident in Foster's stage version, my abiding memory of which is of being mainly bored.

Which version did you see? I think it's been tinkered with since it's original run as the Curve Christmas show in 2018. I saw it this July and wouldn't share many of your criticisms. |

I thoroughly enjoyed it in Bristol but they’ll need to beef the set up a bit if they want to reach the back of the Dominion. If ever a show was made to be discounted over the run up to Christmas this is it.

I must say I was disappointed when I read this was heading into the Dominion. This show just feels very outdated nowadays. The Dominion seems to be the one-stop shop for cheap, lack-lustre productions to fill in the gaps and it's such a shame. I guess better than an empty theatre but I do hope at some point another new, exciting show comes along soon.

Olivia Moore will be great as Sandy but a shame for Ellie Kingdon who stepped up from alternate Sandy on the tour. Ellie will be 1st cover Sandy/ensemble in London.

Peter Andre was really good when I saw him in Grease on tour and received a rapturous reception from the audience. Performing as both Vince Fontaine and Teen Angel makes him a major player in the show. He only does some of the tour venues and even then not all dates.
He will certainly boost audiences at the Dominion. I wonder if there will be another celebrity for all the dates when he will not appear ?
