I’m surprised how how good Liz McLarnon is .. wayyy better than Kimberly Walsh was. Not that it’s hard.
Ben F is bloody annoying.

Also Joe McCann is abysmal.
It’s a fun show with a good score though- if there were some casting tweaks it could be great.

Yeh she's quite good isn't she. Yes! She can do the accent and act which is more than KW could manage. I like her a lot so far

A shame she has to act opposite BF who is as camp as Christmas rendering their ‘ love’ story totally unbelievable.

Not my taste. The sets look quite good though. Prices are horrific, for Salford , and looks like it’s selling well , hope this doesn’t become a trend .

How does the sled thing work? I know it's not just a thing for this show and is common but i just don't know how it's done? Though if you are gonna answer do so in spoiler tags so we don't ruin Christmas

How does the sled thing work? I know it's not just a thing for this show and is common but i just don't know how it's done? Though if you are gonna answer do so in spoiler tags so we don't ruin Christmas I don’t know but whenever you see that trick used the auditorium is blacked out and in this case a mirror ball is sending distracting lights all river the place. {Spoiler - click to view} Given how far the sleigh comes out it must be on some sort of strut or arm vciming from the back of the stage. Can’t see how else it could be done.

How does the sled thing work? I know it's not just a thing for this show and is common but i just don't know how it's done? Though if you are gonna answer do so in spoiler tags so we don't ruin Christmas I hope this helps.. {Spoiler - click to view} It is essentially a black crane/mechanical arm, which is attatched to the platform on either the bottom or the furthest side panel from the audience, depending on what you want it to do. "Blinders" are then used, which are bright moving LED lights directed to face the audience to distract. There is very little light used onstage, with usually only a narrow spotlight on the character in the sleigh. The majority of the crane is operated backstage by 4-6 crew members, with a black curtain acting as the backdrop and hiding the majority of the action. Loud music always has to be used due to the mechanics being quite noisy.

Anyone know if the Elf Live showing is going to be on My5 app, I missed it on TV and won't be able to see it Christmas Day.

I'm watching it on tv but in segments if nothing else on as I can't really get into it. It's ok but just something is missing. Ill persevere though. When the overture was playing and the camera was scanning the audience I noticed several empty seats. You would think for a tv recording they would make sure it was full even if they had to put fillers in.

Lovely to have a musical on tv but still feel (as I did when I saw it in London last year) that this could have been so much better. Liz McC was very good, captured the character as she is in the film really well. I wish they’d re-cast Ben F; he just doesn’t have the comic ability. I’d love to see Simon Lipkin in the role. The little boy was great too. There are some lovely moments, but it did seem to drag with all the ad breaks.

Is this version Elf the gay musical? He is very camp in it.

I tried watching this on Channel 5, but the songs seemed pointless, the set lacked any Christmas colour, and it took itself far too seriously.
If I'd paid the enormous Michael Rose ticket prices, I'd be livid.

I'm watching the TV version now. Better than the film, but it still makes me want to murder an elf. A curious choice for prime-time TV really.
Jessica Martin - haven't seen her in a long time. Ben Forster is way too camp and swish in this.

If this wasn’t a party pooper in December imagine what it will be like in the post Christmas doldrums period. I feel a tiny bit sorry for the cast.
Lowry is discounting.

Really where is this discounting? Feel terrible now for paying £49 to see this tonight.

Saw this at the Dominion a couple of years and really enjoyed it, despite super super premium prices, which I didn’t go for, instead got a regular seat in the back row.
Once again Ben Forster is reprising his reprising his role, who also really surprised me when he played the titular role in the Phantom of the Opera, my expectations wee low before hand, also Joe McGann and Jessica Martin are supporting, who I felt und both to be adequate, as well as the new comer Liz McClarnon
So saw this again last night in the Lowry Centre, one of my favourite theatres in the UK. Seeing Elf just confirms that I have a soft spot for this show, the book maybe on the cheesy side and the songs well I wouldn’t rush to listen to the cast recording on Spotify, but love A Christmas Song which is insanely hummable. For a 3 hour Christmas show, where it’s totally optional whether you take your brain into the theatre, it’s totally fine and fun.
4 Stars

Shocked to read in the programme, that this show is doing a mini arena tour next Christmas, think it is Wembley, Cardiff and Birmingham.
So are they just going to put this show in a arena, as it is? They would need someone pretty big to play Jovie or this won’t sell.

Drama at Elf matinee today as Ben fell off a ladder and was whisked to hospital! It might have been better for him to be ambulanced to hospital, I would think.
