Gwendoline Christie is the only actress that comes to mind who has some of the physical attributes to play the character

For me, this still wins it as the best looking (and sounding!) licensed production. Although, the fact that they missed out the last couple of bars at the end will haunt my dreams forever.

Those ensemble harmonies in When I Grow Up really boost it and sound none other than excellent.

Oof, that video is bad. I hate the supersized productions The Muny puts on.

Had this on my "to see" list for a long time but ever gone because the tickets are pretty expensive and there's never any discounts. However I've had a pretty crappy week so am treating myself and seeing it at last tonight!

The new cast has just been announced. There are quite a lot of people coming in from the tour that recently closed - Sebastien Torkia as Mr Wormwood and Elliot Harper as Miss Trunchbull from Monday, and Carly Thoms is returning as Miss Honey in March. Marianne is extending as Mrs Wormwood.

Wouldn't it be great if Elliott & Harper cast Elliot Harper in something, someday! 🙂

Could this be on the way out? Making room for The Boy in the Dress?

Could this be on the way out? Making room for The Boy in the Dress? I can’t imagine this happening anytime soon. It’s seems to still be going really strong and bringing in an audience, but then again, stranger things have happened.

I saw this yesterday and my enjoyment was seriously hampered by the bad sound system. The mike was up and most discussions came across as screeching. I couldn't understand half of what was said especially by the child actors. I couldn't understand The acrobat story at all. ☹
The songs were similarly affected but at least it wasn't necessary to catch all words the songs are catchy anyway.
Is this acceptabe for a West end production? They clearly put lots of effort into the staging, lighting and other technical aspects. I feel the West end should be world class and not hearing the story due to bad sound is just unforgivable.

The UK tour had the exact same problems with sound.

Seriously that is why I hated this show, I could not hear or understand a single word anyone said and had absolutely no idea what was going on. It was like Chinese Water Torture...

I saw it in 2012 and even then the sound design was awful, the band drowned out a large section of the singing.
The continued notices of the same problem still existing is what puts me off ever seeing it again.

Just watching this which was live streamed last night;
Although I prefer the UK cast recording, Minchin never fails to amaze me when he analyses his work.

Wouldn't have had a clue that this was a thing had it not been for your comment. Just sat through all of this and enjoyed every minute. Tim talking about his work is truly inspiring and the level of detail was incredible. Nice to sit through and hear some of the songs again too. Some of those tracks are pure genius.

Caught this tonight for its reopening! (If anyone else was there and got a picture of the cast list, please do share. There isn't one in the Upper Circle ) Only seen it once before because the audience was atrocious, and sadly it was just as bad this time. The kid sat next to me was an angel, but the two behind narrated the entire show! With their mother practically encouraging them. At one point one of them was also hanging off the back of my seat. I reckon they were at least ten - definitely old enough to know better. Audience aside, this is still a sweet show. Sadly don't know who was on as Matilda, but she was excellent. Good child cast all around, actually. The adults do the best with what they have, but some of the Wormwoods' dialogue is just dreadful... This is one of those shows I would visit more if they had performances where children couldn't go :') (and yes, I do recognise the irony of that for a show led by a child)
