7 years is a great achievement. I wonder how many more years it has in it, as it still doesn't really discount much, and probably makes enough on the weekends/holidays to not need to.

It’ll definitely get to 10 years I’d say. The touring production is doing really well too.

It probably helps it's in a theatre that's not really desired unlike say the Prince Edward or Adelphi. I think it'll hit 10 years as well.

So I am seeing this again tonight and I’m pleased to say they have addressed the sound balancing issues. The music isn’t over amplified and I can now hear the lyrics and the circus scenes sitting in row n
At times the music and singing was on the quiet side, particularly miracle. Otherwise they have pretty much resolved the one thing that kept me coming back
The reason I went was to see Gina Beck as Miss Honey and she doesn’t dissapoint. I particulalry love her acting, portraying honeys timidness and troubled past. She really let go in My House
Sara Munday was on as Matilda and she was a delight to watch. So was Rob Compton and Holly Dale Spencer as the Wormwoods
I was interested to see Haydn Tee as Trunchball. Whilst he is the worst Javert I’ve seen onstage, I could kinda see him in the role (and he certainly looks the monster in the production photos). Sadly he was off and Callum Train went on
Miss Trunchball is like Valjean and Javert really. You need an older actor than the youngsters that comprise the rest of the adult cast. Someone with a certain gravitas and maturity thats suitable for the role, who can be funny and scary. Callum Train was fine (even if he got tangled in the streamer/ribbon thing during The Hammer) but he wasn’t threatening or had a sense of comic timing
Still after staying away for years I was beaming at the end. It’s still one of my favourite musicals and Ronald Dahl adaptations
I think now that les miserables it’s loosing its iconic look, I now know which musical I’m booking for in the New Years sales from now on

I love your analysis, David J! I saw the show this afternoon and actually really like Callum. It was a very different take than some others I've seen, but I thought he played a very insane Trunchbull. Not necessarily my favorite, but I enjoyed the new energy it brought to the stage. I've also never been so brilliantly insulted as I was by Rob Compton at the beginning of act 2, which was delightful. Just so much fun to be back, it's such a fun show!!

Not related to London but just came across this!
Always admire how many amazing regional theatres there are in America that house some amazing productions. Just look at this one for example; the when I grow up sequence looks stunning, got a little emosh watching it!
Deffo have to catch it again soon!

I guess someone in the creative team is a fan of Up! Harmonies on Naughty sound great too. Looks to work really well in the round.

And as Serial Shusher said, harmonies are awesome. Not usual to hear such prevalent lines that aren't the melody. Awesome interpretation!

Going slightly off topic. But on the other hand, there's this.
Only finished Miracle, but thought I'd share my initial thoughts.
I mean, some bizarre directorial decisions. A kick line in Miracle? Hmm. Maybe just me.
And whoever has mixed the sound in the first song... Work it our yourself...
Don't know if anyone feels the same way.

Have decided to stick with it and watch this production. Never thought I’d say that Mrs Wormwood could be TOO melodramatic. Oh dear. Not a $70 I’d spend.

Thinking of booking this for next May after catching Hairspray. I'm surprised it's still going strong.

^I would guess that the reason it’s still going strong is because there is not much direct competition for this in terms of projected target audience in the WE or on tour.As well as MT fans in general,it is a safe bet with families with younger children and pre-teens looking for a birthday treat etc. When Kids Week goes on sale, this and LK always sell out the quickest. The RSC are trying to replicate the success of this with the Walliams/Williams/Chambers version of The Boy In The Dress which is being developed.

Once again, something off topic. Beth Malone is set to be the first woman in any professional production to play Miss. Trunchbull. Also, Laura Michelle Kelly is going to be a great Ms. Honey. Beth Malone Miss Trunchbull

Will be interesting to see a woman in the role.
Would love to see LMK as Ms Honey!

Not sure I can get on board with this casting based on the production photos that have been released. She seems to be swamped by the costume (and the child actors) which surely detracts from the menacing spirit of the role. Beth Malone is a fine actress but I feel that, much like in Moby Dick (the Longden/Kaye version) it would be better to keep the panto spirit intact and the gender-swopped casting alive. Laura Michelle Kelly looks like a perfect fit though.

Trunchbull here doesn’t offer that menacing, threatening and downright gigantic stature that has been seen in the official productions. Of course, have some further comments on this video, but I’ll keep them to myself.

It's all very well saying we must cast the correct gender for the role, but you need to find someone suitable for the role.
I should think there are women out there who have the physical looks of Miss Trunchball, but how many of them are musical actresses?

Having watched the video, she doesn't seem right for the role. The person that immediately comes to mind is Dot-Marie Jones (Coach Beiste in Glee)
