I am glad you have enlightened me. Doesn't say much about the main well respected animal labels, if they just slaughter animals for vanity. Many people may value fur, I don't. 😱

Are the gold taps actually solid gold?

Are the gold taps actually solid gold? I wouldn't have thought so. Gold's a terrible metal for making pretty much everything apart from extremely fine wires. It's stupidly soft and nearly twice as dense as lead. I suspect it won't even "tap" and will just "clunk" instead, but I don't seem to have enough gold lying around to try it out.

Are the gold taps actually solid gold? Perhaps tipped with minks' teeth for that authentic tappity tap sound and maximum animal cruelty?

That's what I thought, as an experienced tapper, I wouldn't think gold taps would be any use at all on tap shoes. Some of the things stated in this thread seem an absurd waste of money when it is so hard to keep a musical in the black, if the money really has been spent in that way. But then again, I'm not one of those people who believes throwing money at things, be they musicals or shoes, automatically makes it of superior to anything else, a lot of the time it's either a waste of money or a company seeing someone coming. Anyway, I am looking forward to seeing this next month, for the musical and to see the talented cast, not because of money spent to produce it.

I suspect 'gold taps' is a pun as they are often referred to as being an excessive, nouveau riche, form of interior decorating.
Doesn't excuse trying to Kid us about animal fur. (See what I did there!)

'The gold taps' are shorthand for gold-coloured tap shoes. The tap part is whatever normal metal is used. The red coat for "Plenty of Money" is part fur part fake fur and was made, not hired from Cosprop or Angels.

I see, but that doesn't make any sense as to the other persons posts, gold coloured tap shoes are not 'no expense spared', they can be the same price, or cheaper then pkain black.

If you re-read the article I think he means a general no-expense spared, as opposed to a gold tap shoe no-expense spared.

Perhaps tipped with minks' teeth for that authentic tappity tap sound and maximum animal cruelty? Do you object when folks (frequently) wear leather in shows or are some animals worth more than others? Sorry, it's a gripe of mine. As an omnivore, with a craving for cheeseburgers, I avoid judging or criticising anyone's choices regarding what they wear, what they eat or what they hunt, so I take your gripe on board. On the other hand, although it's irrational, I fed ducks so often as a child, I developed an unshiftable sentimental fondness for them, so choose not to eat them. I have not ever looked into a duck's eyes and made an Albee style connection with them, I stress, lol. On topic though, with respect to the idea that a genuine mink coat is being used in this show, however, two points do strike me: (1) Unlike leather, mink skin is not a byproduct of the general food production process, so a legitimate distinction can be drawn by those who care to do so; (2) No show should be so dumb as to publicise the use of a real mink coat, as those who do care about this issue, care very much.

and would you go to all the trouble, expense and controversy of getting a mink coat and then dyeing it scarlet?

even the selfish audience member in front row of stalls who recorded most of finale 😡 couldn't detract from the gloriousness of this production. Wow ... what an ensemble 👏👏👏

Absolutely loved this last night - put a huge smile on my face! What amazing dancing. *spoilers* Can someone explain what happens at the end in the plot please? She falls in love with him - and right at the end he realised he's in love with her? Or what...?

I should be on commission for this show. Twice in the last week friends have told me they're going to London and which show should they book. I have said 42nd Street, without any hesitation.

Have booked to go back! This time from the circle rather than front stalls and with my wife and in laws. Looking forward to seeing it from a different perspective.

I went for a second time tonight (£15 dayseats, side stalls) and it was just as glorious a second time. My favourite by far was Clare Halse - a real standout!
