And maybe to him, it was better. Maybe he preferred it to 42nd Street.
It was his opinion. I don't know why you have such a problem with someone who has a different opinion from you.

I felt it a 5, but between this and AIP, I think it would come down to my mood which I'd rate higher on the night. Can't really pick between them - as my opinion on my own site says, I think this is cappuccino to AIP's espresso. Hope both do well. That's it in a nutshell TM - thank you!

I confess I agree with a lot of the Guardian's criticisms, though I would have given it 4 stars (average of 5 for production & 3 for piece). WOS makes some similar points. Now awaiting my slaughtering from the pro-5-star faction... PS It's fortunate the producers had the foresight to book one of the few London theatres that has a Royal box, given the Duchess Of Cambridge's attendance! No slaughtering - I can understand that point of view, it's the 3 stars I struggle with - not because they don't have a right to their opinion, but because I'm saddened that the sheer joy of that magnificent herd of hoofers didn't do for them what it did for me 🤗

There is a certain irony in seeing people who regularly trash well liked shows, not comprehending how someone could dislike a show that they like.

Yes, there's obviously something wrong with him because he didn't like the show. Obviously, if he had loved the show, there would be nothing wrong with him. I asked a few pages back and met with an attack calling me cynical, but is this show crowdfunded? Why such high feelings about this musical? I will see it and may well love it, but whether I do or don't I'll respect other people's opinions on it. All of this hype feels extremely contrived though and it's rather off putting! You say you'll respect other people's opinions yet you're questioning why people have such positive reactions to it - that's why you got called out. Either you respect others' opinions or you don't, that's your prerogative, but reactions to shows are always purely opinion, nothing more, and that doesn't change just because a lot of people's opinions happen to be raves about this particular show. Calling that contrived shows rather a lack of respect for people's opinions in my book...

For me both are 5* the two best new-ish things in the West End right now. No need to pit them off against each other. I prefer both to Dreamgirls, the other 'hit' new musical of the board. Dreamgirls is just 2 hours of a screechy pop concert Amplified like a high school prom Which you didn't invest in.

And some more in the back/on different levels which I didnt ask further about

I went to buy the soundtrack to this and noticed that the London Theatre Orchestra and Cast recording has less songs than the Broadway cast recording. Missing is "Go Into Your Dance", "Getting Out of Town" and "Sunnyside to Every Situation". Sorry if this is a stupid question but does the current play have those songs in it? I looked on the theatre website and it only listed the "iconic" songs, not all the songs in the play
Thank you

Naturally, we all are comparing this to An American in Paris because dance heavy, opened around the same time, both have a show within a show and blah blah blah, but which of these shows do we imagine will last longer than the other?

All three songs are in this production of the show.

I can't really add much but dear god! Thats one of the best shows I've ever seen. It's just stunning and those front row seats are the dogs bo**ocks. The show belongs to the boys and girls though. They never stop and the tap numbers gave me goose bumps. Where did those stairs appear from? And how many costumes are there? Must be hundreds. Both my friend and I said we would happily pay £75 to see it again from the same seats. Even got a badge at the end so very happy.
