Kinda crazy only a month into the new cast, Alyn Hawke has already ticked off his two understudy roles. He's on today for Pat Denning and did Mac/Doc/Thug a week or so into the run. He wasn't on as Pat tonight, I walked past the theatre and had a peak at the cast board. Today was the dress rehearsal for the covers so he probably played Pat this afternoon. I did only glance at the cast board and more at the left hand side than the right, only Hannah-Faith was on as Peggy, other than that I think it was full cast on the left side I think that Alwyn was still on as Mac/Doc/Thug though from what I remember of the right hand side. Ah makes sense, thanks for clarifying.

GRR my dad is so annoying - he is moaning about the understudy and wants money back. I dont know why he bothers to buy the tickets as present for my birthday only to moan at me. And I imagine that attitude is why theaters don't announce understudies over the mic anymore and rely on slips or even just a notice on a wall.

We saw it on Tuesday after doing the theatre tour. Just me and my husband so almost a private tour which was very interesting and passed an hour on nicely. I had booked balcony tickets which I was a bit worried about and was going to ask if we could upgrade when I picked them up, only to be told we had been moved to Grand Circle, Row B. Great seats and the show was just as good as the last time we saw it in the famous A1 and A0 seats in the stalls. Lulu was ok, but not in the same league as Sheena Easton. Taps just as spine chilling as ever. Their legs must kill doing that nearly every day.

The cast did an amazing performance at West end eurovision. A salsa version of Boom Bang A Bang and Lulu dressed up like Lena Horne (ask your mother who she is).

Lena Horne is (well, was) one of the greatest American performers ever. The idea of Lulu having anything to do with her - visually or otherwise - is bizarre beyond words.

Actually I didn't mean Lena Horne at all. I meant to say Carmen Miranda. Her with the fruit on her head. Yes Lulu as Lena Horne would be bizarre. Senior moment.

Well, it turned out that it was actually Carmen Miranda that Lulu was dressed up like, but how anybody could have mixed up Lena Horne, one of the USA's finest black singers, with Carmen Miranda, the campest entertainer Portugal and Brazil ever produced, is beyond me, except that both ladies were uniquely talented and appeared in a number of MGM films during the heyday of the American musical movie. There are lots of things about both ladies on the internet. No, TallPaul, sadly I never saw either of these legendary performers live, if that is what you are implying, but I saw a lot of their movies on first release and hugely entertaining they were too!

After the week she's had, somewhere in the world Sierra Boggess was really hoping that Lulu had appeared at West End Eurovision as Lena Horne. #InappropriateCasting

I'm listening to Jennifer Saunders' autobiography (in the car) at the moment and I've just reached a piece on Lulu that I found particularly fascinating after all the comments on this thread.
There were certain favourite performers who were often asked back to the French and Saunders show because they just 'got it' and were easy to work with. Absolute top of this list was.....yep...Lulu!
There was a scene where they had to shoot her (as in with a gun, not a camera) and they planted 20 blood pellets inside her white blouse. There was only one blouse and, therefore, only one take. The important thing for Lulu's safety was to make sure she didn't have her arms down when they were 'shooting' her or the pellets would explode inwards (onto her skin) instead of outwards (through the blouse.) One arm wasn't up enough and one pellet pierced her skin badly, making a nasty round hole in her arm. She was taken to hospital and ended up having minor plastic surgery to repair the mess.
The BBC execs were beside themselves, expecting to be sued out of their bonuses. Not only didn't Lulu sue, she didn't complain or ever mention it in any way other than jokingly and came straight back for more French and Saunders recordings when invited. Jennifer said that, to this day, she remains one of the best people she has ever worked with.

Interesting - there are so many tales about Lulu being difficult to work with, even now you'll get the odd snide comment on Strictly, that it never seemed to match with her being asked back to Ab Fab regularly. And let's face it they are hardly particularly complimentary to her on the show.

Sorry, alece10. I apologise! My post was meant to be vaguely humorous but I regret that it came out sounding rather offensive. And I have just had a bigger senior moment than yours. I thought I had a ticket in the Balcony at the Coliseum on 16 May to see the ENO Iolanthe and one on Saturday in the Stalls at Richmond on 19 May to see Sasha Regan's Iolanthe, but it turns out that the ticket on 16 May is also in the Stalls at Richmond to see Sasha Regan's Iolanthe. How I could have booked that ticket thinking I was booking for the Coliseum I will never know so who am I to criticise you for your mix up, which was just in a post on TheatreBoard – mine was much worse!

I feel like I was seeing a different performance, I liked Lulu. 😂😂 My parents saw the show a couple of weeks ago (I got them the famous A1/A23 seats) and the first thing my mum told me was how much she loved the ' actress playing the diva lady'. I'm also not sure why on earth I know who Lulu is and my mum does not...

Lulu was on Graham Norton's show this morning. Credit where it's due, she admitted to drying last night, during the final dressing room scene with Peggy, due, she said, to being thrown by the audience's unusually raucous laughter.
Just two minutes before, she told Graham she hopes to do more serious acting in the future, presumably in roles that don't have many lines!

Any thoughts on when the Lulu replacement will be announced? I am keen to book, but hesitant about booking while Lulu is in it. Equally, I do want to see it soon.

Anyone interested in a £25 ticket for Saturday matinee 19th May? It's seat A1 in the stalls. I had booked solely to see Ashley Day in this and as he tweeted now he'll be on holiday then, I see no real point in going. Will try another time when he's on (well, maybe).

Alas, I can't make that Saturday, but thanks for posting the holiday dates for Ashley Day (17, 18 and 19 May). I'll try and catch the cover while they're on.

I think it is 7th July. For some fans of the show that day cannot come too soon!
