I remember when I saw it, the main guy who was the MJ lookalike, it was scary how much he looked like him. It was a really freaky thing to watch.

Unfortunately a gang of women of a certain age got plastered when I went and I had them standing throughout (they were front gallery, nobody behind could see a thing. They didn't care), singing, waving (and spilling) drinks over people, kicking off with fellow audience members who were annoyed with their behaviour and then, my personal favourite, having a shouting match with an usher during my favourite song, Billie Jean. I'd never go to another jukebox musical like this on tour in my local theatre again! Audience members actually walked out because of the behaviour of this minority. One of my worst evenings ever in a theatre. |

Really is a nightmare....
I know for Nica et al. this makes them good money, but surely they know it is 'bad' theatre, and that based on the success of shows that have gone in their other smaller theatres not every show is going to be a failure.

I've just received an email from WhatsOnStage promoting this as "Now 15th longest running musical". There comes a point where a claim like that becomes counterproductive. Imagine "Voted Britain's 15th favourite washing up liquid", for example.

To think one of the last things I saw in the Lyric was the spellbinding Death of a Salesman with Brian Dennehy and Clare Higgins and now it's constant host to this pile of bilge.

I would love to know how this sells - how often certain levels are closed etc. But that would mean someone would have to go to find out and I doubt anyone here would be willing (and I’m certainly not volunteering)

Is it just me who thinks that advertising this as a musical is grossly misleading? It's a concert. A glorified tribute show. Their own advert on this email I got from W*S today says the same:  So really it should be the 15th longest-running piece of theatre that contains a significant amount of music. Or maybe 16th because then we'd have to include Stomp too. Anyone who wants to visit the Lyric and can't bear to sit through this *insert descriptive word of your choice*, the Showstoppers do their improvised musical there one Monday a month  |
