What annoys me is how the papers and journalists always say "Sarah Harding looks refreshed after her West End debut". Like it isn't the west end so it shows how they don't always 100% know what they are talking about

Like it isn't the west end so it shows how they don't always 100% know what they are talking about You'll come to realise soon enough that the papers really don't have any clue at all, they just want to sell copies, they don't care if the info they're giving out is correct or accurate so long as they get their (very biased) point of view across. It's no surprise at all that they have marketed Sarah incorrectly, it also wouldn't surprise me if they did it on purpose, 'West End debut' sounds far more flashy than 'she's touring, which she's done a million times over before in GA'. Just a typical thing the papers do |

The sad thing is that if a name like Sarah was not in this show then the papers probably would not mention this production at all!

I do also feel bad for the other members of the cast who have likely worked long and hard to get this far in their careers.
I'm almost curious to see it, though. It does sound a little like Halle Berry's 'Catwoman''- so bad it's good.

Ok so predictions about what's going to happen with this. Judging by the Twitter comments it looks irrecoverable. Even if they drafted in different leads the actual production sounds dire - dead people being dragged off stage by their feet..?
Someone posted the seat plan for the New Wimbledon tonight and it looks 75% empty.
Will BK pull the tour? Has he ever done that before?

It's not as if Sarah Harding has no acting experience at all. It's just musical theatre that's new to her, and if she wants to do it she has to begin somewhere. Unfortunately it's not like she can take a place in the ensemble, because we all know that if she did the gutter press would seize on her non-lead status as proof that her career was finished. All she can do is try to settle down as quickly as she can and not get discouraged by it all. She might turn out to be pretty good in the end. Or not.
I did a quick search to find out what acting experience she had. The first hit was a story from the Daily Mail about her debut in Ghost, concentrating on what she was wearing, because apparently the most important thing about a woman's work is how she looks while doing it. Ah, the press. Can't live with them, can't torch the bastards and piss on their ashes.

So there is basically no set? Wow, talk about budget cuts! There are walls that are slid on and off, another piece with the door that finishes off the apartment, and I think one piece that it lowered down with like arches which was mostly used for the bank. And there was also something with doors for the train. Not individual smaller sets to show the different locations though. The back drop includes 2 Empire state buildings and times square, so the set designer didn't know where Brooklyn is either! |

Just found out this show had its first day in technical rehearsals on Tuesday. Three days to tech a new production of a musical is not much at all.
When is its official opening night?

Seeing as two of my tweets have been quoted I thought that I'd add a few comments. I've only seen the film once and couldn't really remember what happened, so it was a bit likely watching something new.
The set reminded me of the TV program Crossroads, very cheap and wobbly. The scene where Sam was killed the person that shot him, sorry can't remember his name, was supposed to walk on stage behind a wall that moved on stage at the same time, problem was the scenery didn't move and he briefly appeared in full view of the audience. He then had to move back slightly and pull it on himself. Similar thing happened later on when the wall on the opposite side came halfway into their apartment and he had to walk it off stage.
When Carl was trying to break into the flat the chain that kept the door closed fell off and he appeared in the room. He then pulled the door shut, fired his gun at it and walked onstage. This had the audience in hysterics.
The best part of this scene was when a stage hand pulled Carl off stage, in full view of the audience, by his ankles.
There was no chemistry between Molly and Sam, and as for Sarah Harding, I think my comment 'Screeching like a Banshee' just about sums up her singing ability.
I enjoy the theatre, comedies first, serious plays next, then musicals in third place. That said I saw Calamity Jane four times last year because I thought it was so good.
I can honestly say last night's performance was the worst professional show I have ever seen.

There's a brilliant tweet on the Ghost feed (sorry not sure how to copy it) after a picture of Sarah outside the theatre looking happy,someone has tweeted " well at least someone was smiling after the show"

I can honestly say last night's performance was the worst professional show I have ever seen. Welcome to the forum. Serious question, to what extent do you think this is recoverable? Some of the things you describe sound like prop/set issues and under-rehearsal. Do you think this could get better or is it a lost cause? |

It's difficult to know where to start having just left the theatre. I wish I'd never entered the theatre now.
This was the worst "professional" production of a show I've probably ever seen. The casting is atrocious. The two leads both equally inadequate in my opinion in terms of acting and singing, only Sam's songs don't quite expose him vocally as much as Molly's. The acting was dire from both. I don't want to just be mean about them, as they just simply shouldn't have been cast in this at all. There were audible laughs at points there shouldn't be, lyrics forgotten, lines missed out, songs cut short etc. Tuning was a huge issue, but equally so was timing! Bars out sometimes and the pianist was actually playing the melody for the leads a number of times loudly to help them (which didn't work). Just wow. I think it could be saved if you recast the two leads and add in a few illusions to sell moments better. I have booked for another later in the run which I'm definitely going to try and cancel.
The original London production was one of my all time favourites for many reasons, and this tonight was way way way below even the amateur productions I've seen. It was like watching a school production, though that feels disrespectful to schools.
I can't actually believe it. It's laughable but has made me angry at paying good money for this "experience".

But the the only way that the rest can be recovered is to re-cast Molly at least and maybe Sam. Oda Mae Brown was the saving grace, she got more applause in the walk down than Molly and Sam did. |

Is it bad I kinda wanna go just to see if it is as bad as everyone is making out? Generally I am very good at finding a few saving graces haha, and it sounds almost unreal all this negativity haha!
I mean, I believe it, but it is just shocking to read this is considered a professional production!
