I love that we have a recording of Warren. Yes she is impersonating Tina but her voice is incredibly strong and has its own inflections that it feels much more than just an impersonation to me - kind of inhabiting the spirit of Tina while also adding something new.

I actually think the cast recording is mostly better than the show, Adrienne's voice (which is a thing of glory) is showcased a little bit more and it's not as mannered as it is in the show. Some of the arrangements are quite nice too, although I'd have liked the big finishes that they give to songs like 'River Deep...' and 'Proud Mary' in the show.
What I think is good about the cast recording is that the sheer power of Adrienne's vocals (although she's much more thrilling live) are not 'smoothed out' during the production process.
Plus the other benefit of the cast recording is that you don't have to sit through the show to listen to it.

I'm thinking about revisiting before Warren goes but just wondering how are her vocals holding up? She sounds great on the recording but I can't imagine it is easy to sing this night after night...

Owing in part to the terrifying hen party atmosphere.

Can someone please explain to be that weird as hell opening? Because the music sounds awesome but then she is doing what I can only assume is a chant or a vocal warmup, but I haven't seen the show and out of context it sounds bizzare.
Also, in Nutbush City Limits, am I the only one having issues with the audio on it? It's severely quieter than the whole album?

Think it’s quite rude to call it “weird as hell” when you haven’t even seen the show. It makes sense when you see the show, but essentially {Spoiler - click to view}The show opens where the show ends so it is Tina about to go onto a massive concert with her big hair etc, she then sits down to meditate since she is a Budhist. The show then flashbacks to her young days right at the start of her life. The chanting is done by her and her grandmother, it is reflective of African tribal

I think it's a Buddhist chant; correct me if I'm wrong.
She converted to Buddism when she was still with Ike according to google.

It is OK to ask questions and for me to feel something is weird and asking for clarification on it.

I didn't call the show weird as hell, I called the track on a Cast Recording weird as hell because I wasn't expefting it to be the opening number of a musical about Tina Turner. Having now heard from latefortheoverture the reasoning behind it, I now understand and have been educated as such and understand the reasoning behind it.

Oh come on, he just said the opening sounds weird. And I thought the same thing, we were actually discussing that on Twitter before he posted here.
When you haven't seen the show, without a context, it DOES sound weird.
But oh well, I guess one can't have an opinion anymore without people overreacting.

I’ve found that if someone makes a post and it becomes the first post of a new page, I can’t see that post until another post is made - I’ve only experienced it with this particular thread (on multiple occasions), but it could just be coincidence that all other threads have more than 1 post on a page by the time I look at them

I’m trying to work out what things would make me get the hump at someone online. I’ve come up with homophobia, racism and sexism, a direct personal attack on me or my friends/family and when somone writes PIN number instead of PIN. Someone saying they didn’t understand the start of my favourite musical however...

Have two lucky dip stall seats for tomorrow night, but I'm now unsure whether I can make it.
I paid £70 for the pair- willing to take a considerable offer. They will be in the stalls but just don't know where until they are picked up.
DM me here or on twitter (@lateforoverture) if you're interested.
Also, Adrienne is on tomorrow, her penultimate week! She'll be a big contender at the Oliviers and the Tonys next year....

Gosh the last week of a run always seems to be a shocker for people getting ill or injured - Rosalie Craig a couple of weeks ago for one, and of course famously Idina in Wicked.
Get well soon Adrienne!

Can anyone explain the Tina lottery? It’s very confusing as it’s entered two weeks in advance. I applied on Sunday 7th April and choose Thursday evening performance. I’m in London on Thursday 18th April, so is my entry in time of the 2 week window to be entered for the date I’m there?
Do you have to enter every time you want to go, as it says it’s a rolling lottery?

"Apply for any MONDAY TO THURSDAY EVENING performance within a 2 week period. If you win, you will be contacted 3 to 5 days ahead of the performance, and will have 24 hours in which to book the actual tickets. Winners are contacted via email. Maximum 2 tickets per application." So, if you applied on Sunday, and they contact you 3 to 5 days ahead, then I guess sadly it looks like you didn't win. Oh that’s a shame. Won Aladdin lottery for next week though, so every cloud...

Get well soon Adrienne! Is she actually off or just sick and singing through the pain? I think it’s when stars see the end and maybe their bodies relax a bit. Like how I always seem to come down with a cold only when I’m on holiday, because it’s like my body won’t let me be sick when I’m working! 😐

Listening to the Tina recording and it’s a bit dull.
Plus as fierce as I think Warren is- I do not get what she’s doing with her voice. It ain’t nothing like Tina and it sounds so daft. Just confirms the disappointment I felt at how mediocre the whole show was.
